Huskies Load Up On West Prelim Qualifiers
May 21, 2026 | Track & Field
SEATTLE – All that remains for this collegiate track season are the NCAA Outdoor Championships and the preliminary rounds that precede it. The NCAA West Preliminary fields were confirmed today, with Washington securing 36 entries for the four-day competition that runs from May 27-30 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The West Prelims are the last hurdle before the NCAA Outdoor Championships, with the top-48 athletes in every individual event in the western half of the country competing for 12 qualifying spots. Those who make the top-12 will move on to the NCAA Outdoor final site in Eugene, Ore. from June 10-13.
Arkansas will host the West Prelims at John McDonnell Field, while the East Prelims will be held concurrently in Lexington, Ky.
Washington has 33 athletes making up its 36 entries. Three Huskies are entered in multiple events: Mia Cochran (1500m & 5000m); Evan Jenkins (5000m & 10000m); and Chloe Thomas (5000m & 10000m).
The UW women have 21 entries and the men have 15, while top-ranked heptathlete Sofia Cosculluela and decathlete Teko Cates both will advance straight through to Eugene in the multi-events by virtue of their season-best scores. Cosculluela and Cates will both compete in singles events in Fayetteville, with Cosculluela running the 100m hurdles, and Cates going in the high jump.
The biggest event for the team is, unsurprisingly, the women's pole vault, where UW has five qualifiers out of the 48: Hana and Amanda Moll, Sara Borton, Veronica Vacca, and Avril Wilson.
