Washington Completes Round One Of Western Intercollegiate
April 13, 2026 | Men's Golf
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Washington men's golf is in 10th-place following an opening round 361 (+11) at the Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Course.
This is the first tournament of the season the Huskies have participated in that six players participate with five scores counting.
"Tough day for us today," said head coach Alan Murray. "Jacob Goode had a back spasm yesterday and was unable to play this week, so we had to fly Jake Foley down last night to replace him. He was thrown out there this morning last minute once it was clear Jacob couldn't play."
Emil Herstad posted his second-best round of the season with an opening 69 (-1). He is in a tie for 20th.
"Great round by Emil," Murray stated. "He is really starting to adjust to the conditions here in the US and he was very impressive today. Under par is always a good score at Pasatiempo."
Finn Koelle had an opening round 73 (+3) to put him in a tie for 44th after 18 holes. After a double on the second hole, Koelle bounced back with back-to-back birdies to shoot even par in the first nine.
Brock Maulding battled through his round and was able to post two birdies coming down the stretch to post a 73 (+3) and in a tie for 53rd.
Foley had 14 pars on his round, which was tied for fifth-most in the tournament, but a costly double at the final hole put him at 3-over (73).
"He [Jake] battled gamely and played a really good round until a tough finish took the shine off," Murray said.
Grady Millar and Jack Murphy rounded out the lineup with rounds of 74 (+4) and 75 (+5), respectively.
"We are a ways back off the lead at the end of the first round but there is a long way to go and the course will get firmer and faster as the week progresses," Murray concluded. "We just need to execute a little better tomorrow and try take advantage of the perfect early morning conditions."
Washington will play alongside Nihon University in Round 2 beginning at 8 a.m. PT off hole No. 1. Live scoring can be found on Clippd and coverage will begin on Golf Channel at 4 p.m. PT.
