Huskies Split Doubleheader With Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Huskies took one of two on Friday, setting up a rubber match with Minnesota on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies took an 11-7 win in the first game before dropping a 12-6 loss in game two.
Washington moves to 15-19 and 7-7 in Big Ten play.
The bats were hot for the Dawgs in game one as the Huskies belted four home runs on their way to a series-opening victory. Jackson Hotchkiss got the scoring started immediately, smoking a leadoff home run to put the Huskies in front immediately.
Washington led the entire way in the contest, at one point jumping in front by as much as 10 runs.
The Huskies hung a five in the fourth inning before adding three more in the fifth to cap the scoring. Hotchkiss blasted his second home run of the game in the fourth, his second of three hits in game one.
The sophomore right fielder finished his game going 3-4 with five RBIs, two walks, and two home runs. He now has 11 bombs on the season, the most of any Husky.
Sam DeCarlo ripped his fourth home run of the game in the fourth inning. Bower closed out the home run flurry with his ninth of the season in the fifth.
Noah Kenney earned his fourth win of the year, throwing 6.0 innings while allowing three hits, four runs, three walks, and five strikeouts.
Carson Boesel tossed 2.2 innings of relief before handing the ball to Tommy Brandenburg who recorded the final out in the game and was awarded the save.
In game two, Bower again had the hot hand offensively. The Husky catcher tagged his second home run of the day, a solo shot in the third inning to bring his season total up to 10.
Blake Wilson went 3-4 from the plate to lead Washington in hits. The junior added a double and a stolen base in the contest.
Five different players recorded RBIs in the game, including Bower, Braeden Terry, Alex Pearson, Landon Young, and Ty Cowan.
Liam Lierman started the game, throwing 2.0 innings before handing over the ball to Jaxson Gore. Bryce Johnson, Jack Wade, and Tyler Walker each pitched in relief in the game.
Washington and Minnesota will face off in a rubber match on Saturday at 1 p.m. PT.
