Bullpen Shines As Dawgs Drop Game Two To No. 13 USC

LOS ANGELES – Colton Bower launched his sixth home run of the season but the Huskies ultimately fell to No. 13 USC 7-2 on Saturday night.
The Huskies move to 9-13 and 4-4 in Big Ten play.
The Trojans jumped in front early, scoring their seven runs in the first two innings, but the Washington relievers took command of the game and stifled the hosts over the rest of the contest.
In total, Gunnar Nichols, Jaxson Gore, and Liam Lierman combined to throw 6.1 scoreless innings while only four hits and one walk. Lierman led the team with four punchouts in his three frames.
The Huskies connected for six total hits on Saturday, highlighted by Colton Bower bomb in the second inning. He tagged a solo shot 365 feet to left field to put Washington on the board.
The Washington catcher leads the team in total home runs (6) and RBIs (20).
Sam DeCarlo drove in the other Washington run, bringing home Jackson Hotchkiss from second base on an RBI single in the sixth inning. Hotchkiss began the inning with a leadoff double, one of two doubles on the day for the Huskies.
Ty Cowan connected for a double of his own in the ninth inning.
Alexander Pearson made his first start on Saturday, batting as the designated hitter. He recorded his first collegiate hit in the game, one of Washington's six knocks in the contest.
Washington will look to bounce back on Sunday in game three of the series. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. in Los Angeles.
