Meet The UW Men's Rowing Class Of 2029
March 19, 2026 | Men's Rowing
Class Day has been a key component to the Washington Rowing program since 1901 – a century and a quarter ago – and the 2026 version is upon us this Saturday, March 21.
Each year, the UW men's team officially introduces its new class of freshmen in conjuction with Class Day, as it's a milestone that indicates that each of those individuals has made the team.
Here's a look at the 15 men and women who make up Washington Men's Rowing's Class of 2029:
We'll start with the three Husky freshmen who have traveled the shortest distance to Conibear Shellhouse. Lazlo Davis-Rubin attended Seattle's Ballard High School and rowed for Green Lake Crew. He was also an outstanding wrestler in high school, taking fifth in state in 2024.
Will Singleton is a product of Bishop Blanchet High in Seattle. A teammate of Davis-Rubin at Green Lake crew, he rowed in the club's top eight for four years before coming to UW.
Boden Chapek joins the team from Edmonds-Woodway High, just north of Seattle. Chapek rowed for Seattle Scullers, and also has a background of success in cross country and track & field.
Another three Grunties come to UW from California: Jacob Day and Avery Lowe (San Diego), and Dylan West (San Jose). Day, a rower, and Lowe, a coxswain, both competed for San Diego Rowing Club, with Lowe coxing the men's coxed four to second at Youth Nationals. West competed for Los Gatos Rowing Club in Northern California.
An additional three new Huskies have joined the program from the East Coast: coxswains Tessa Adams (Providence, R.I.) and Connor Eacker (Ellicott City, Md.), and rower Thomas Fiorito (Greenwich, Conn.).
Adams, a team captain, coxed the Narragansett Boat Club four to gold in the women's four at 2025 Youth Nationals, among other accomplishments, while Eacker's Annapolis Junior Rowing 2V 4+ won gold at Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships, to name one honor. Fiorito was a team captain for Greenwich Crew and once finished fifth in the coxed four at Head of the Charles.
Washington's class of newcomers includes four student-athletes from the United Kingdom. Coxswain Victor Bocquet and rower Monte Woods hail from London; Jerry Anderson comes from Marlow, just north and east of London; and Byron Richards is from Nottingham, in England's Midlands.
Anderson rowed for Marlow Rowing Club and also represented Great Britain in the quad at 2024 World Rowing Under 19 Championships. Bocquet, who coxed for St. Paul's School, coxed the British women's eight at 2024 Under 19s, earning the silver medal.
Richards, who competed for Leander Club, raced in the single for Great Britain at the 2023 World Rowing Under 23 Championships. Wood, who had previously attended St. Edward's School in England, finished his school at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire.
The final two Huskies who make up the Class of 2029 come to Seattle from New Zealand. Zach Brownlee is from Hamilton, New Zealand, and rowed for Hamilton Rowing Club. Callan Ogilvie lists Auckland, New Zealand, as his home town, but he rowed for Leander Club in the U.K.
All 15 of these Huskies will have their first opportunity to impress Husky fans this Saturday as they race down Montlake Cut. Class Day races begin Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. PT.
