Huskies Fall 10-9 In Extra Innings To Ohio State
March 14, 2026 | Baseball
Washington moves to 6-11 on the season and 2-2 in Big Ten play.
The Huskies battled back from several runs down to tie the game on multiple occasions and nearly won the game in the bottom of the ninth before Ohio State scored the game winning run in the 10th inning.
Washington got on the board first in the second inning, but Ohio State jumped in front in the third, 2-1. In the fourth, Daniel Porras hit the first home run of the contest, a solo shot to right, to tie the game at two.
It was the freshman's fourth home run of the season, the second-most of any Husky.
In the fifth, Ohio State took the lead again, taking a 5-2 advantage into the bottom of the frame. They added another run in the sixth, leaving the Huskies behind 6-2.
Sam DeCarlo started the rally for Washington, sending the second home run out to right field to pull one back. Colton Bower followed that up with a two-run blast to make it just a one run deficit at 6-5.
The Buckeyes would score one more in the seventh before Jackson Hotchkiss tagged the fourth Husky homer of the day. Washington then capitalized on an error to knot the game up at seven apiece.
Each team plated two runs in the eighth to make it a 9-9 game heading into the ninth. Washington worked a scoreless top half of the frame and had runners on first and third with no outs in the ninth, but the Huskies couldn't find the go-ahead run.
In the 10th, Ohio State scored a solo home run of their own to take the lead and win the game.
Four Huskies recorded multiple hits in the game: Jackson Hotchkiss, Sam DeCarlo, Colton Bower, and Landon Young each had two knocks. Bower and Braeden Terry both chipped in two walks in the contest as well.
Noah Kenney made the start on the mound, finishing with 4.2 inning pitched, six hits, five runs, and six strikeouts on the day.
Jack Wade, Tommy Brandenburg, and Bryce Johnson all pitched in relief. Johnson threw 3.0 total frames, allowing five hits, three runs, and one walk while striking out five.
The Huskies will look to punch back on Saturday night in game two of the series. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. at Husky Ballpark.
