February 21, 2026 | Men's Basketball
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Washington began a cross-country road trip with a 64-60 defeat at the hands of Maryland on Saturday.
Hannes Steinbach sunk a jump shot to even the score at 60-60 with less than 1:30 remaining and Quimari Peterson and Zoom Diallo fought for a loose ball on the ensuing Husky possession, maintaining the ball with 31.9 seconds left.
Down 62-60 on the reset, Peterson secured another offensive rebound and drove to the basket but his shot wouldn't fall and Maryland sealed UW's fate.
The Dawgs opened the scoring and led 13-5 nearly six minutes into the contest.
It would be their largest lead as the Terrapins eventually took a six-point lead late in the half and led 34-32 at the break.
Courtland Muldrew drew a charge and scored on the following possession to give the Huskies a 49-47 lead with 11:02 left in the second half of a game that featured only 19 free throw attempts combined.
Diallo led UW with 19 points and five assists. He made eight of his 13 shots and is 15-of-21 over his last two games. He also secured four rebounds.
Steinbach started the game 5-for-5 with 10 points before finishing with 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting.
Wesley Yates III was the other Husky in double figures, finishing with 12 points.
The Terrapins made 10 threes to the Huskies' five.
UW had not been out-rebounded in five previous games.
The Huskies will head north to take on Rutgers on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. PT on Big Ten Network.
