Huskies Drop Match Against South Florida.
January 23, 2026 | Men's Tennis
Set to Play UNC-Wilmington in Consolation Game Tomorrow.
SEATTLE – Washington dropped their second contest of 2026 today with a hard-fought contest against the Bulls of South Florida, which ended 4-0, during the opening round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend, hosted by the University of Texas. The Huskies are now 2-2 on the season and 0-1 overall at neutral site events.
In the pivotal doubles match against the Bulls, both the Husky No. 2 and No. 3 duos dropped a tie-break set 7-6(3), to concede the crucial doubles point to USF. Ultimately giving them the match advantage. The Husky top three had the Bulls on the ropes in the later stages of singles Set 2, which would have flipped the match in favor of the Dawgs.
All was not for nought in this loss, as Rohan Belday, Stephane Kamendje, and Soham Purohit all responded well from Tuesday night's clash against Princeton. As all three finished the day with a Set 2 lead, with Rohan closing in on a game win versus USF's Agustin Cuellar, Soham taking 28th-ranked Hugo Car the distance in Set 2, ending 4 all, and Kamendje leading the set 3-1.
In doubles, the Dawgs No. 2 pairing of Stephane/Nikola emerged victorious with a set win, tying up the doubles outing before the Huskies dropped the point with losses from the Husky No. 1 and No. 3 pairs.
The Dawgs will be back-in-action bright and early tomorrow morning from the Weller Tennis Center, taking on UNC-Wilmington in the consolation match at 7:30am PT. This will be the first meeting between the Huskies and Seahawks. The Seahawks are 0-1 on the year, with their first match and loss of the year coming from 4th-ranked Texas.
Fans are asked to stay tuned for potential changes in venue and match start times due to the potential for inclement weather in the area.
