Huskies Return to Winning Form Against Seahawks
January 24, 2026 | Men's Tennis
UW - 5, UNCW - 2
SEATTLE – Washington won their day two consolation group contest today, 5-2, with a hard-fought meeting with the Seahawks of UNC-Wilmington. The Dawgs are now 1-1 at the conclusion of ITA Kickoff Weekend and are 3-2 on the year with a week off before their next matchup against the University of Portland on Feb. 6th.
Due to weather concerns in the southeast, an earlier match rescheduling for todays match was pushed up another half hour from 7:30am to 7am PT. This early call time did little to hamper the the play of the Dawgs, as after taking an early lead in the doubles matchups, with top duo Purohit/Pearson making short work of the Wilmington No.1's 6-1. Cleaning up the doubles match, the Husky No.3 pairing of Belday/Seo, after going down early, rallied back to clinch the point by way of a 6-4 victory.
This early start bled its way into set one of singles, as all but two Dawgs dropped their sets, as both Soham and Rohan were able to capture the early win. Capping off an already impressive showing in day one, Purohit was able to sweep UNCW's Jordi Domenech 7-5, 7-5 to give Washington the match lead.
In critical set three's both Kamendje and Bien showed the level of grit and determination needed to finish out and win their individual matches. As with simultaneous finishes of a tie break win 7-6(4) for Kamendje and a 6-4 win for Bien, the Huskies were able to capture a victory against the reigning CAA Champions.
The Dawgs will have a week off before they will be back-in-action on February 6th after a busy start to the 2026 campaign. The Huskies will look to improve their 3-2 record against PNW rival, the University of Portland, who've already made a trip to Montlake this season to play Belmont back at the start of the year..
