Dawgs Start Season With 1-1 Draw Against Oregon State
August 14, 2025 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE – The Washington women's soccer team controlled much of the run of play in Thursday night's season opener against Oregon State but were forced to settle for a draw, finishing 1-1 at Husky Soccer Stadium.
The Huskies outshot the Beavers 16-5 on the night, forcing OSU keeper Mya Sanchez into three exceptional saves to earn the away side the draw.
After a settling in period in the opening minutes, Kelsey Branson put the Dawgs on top in the 32nd minute off a corner kick. The SoCal native rose high to meet Samiah Shell's service, heading past Sanchez to start off her senior season and make it 1-0.
The Huskies continued to press on the rest of the half and coming out of the halftime break, creating several near chances at a second.
Washington was twice denied by the woodwork early in the second half, first from close range and then off a tip from Sanchez.
With the Huskies dominating possession, Oregon State got in behind the UW back line to level the score in the 68th minute as Nathalie Lewis slipped a shot past a charging Tanner Ijams.
Washington continued its fight to regain the advantage until the final whistle, and twice had reviews for penalties go the Beavers' way, ultimately settling for a one-goal draw.
The Huskies resume the season at home on Sunday, hosting Idaho for a 1:00 p.m. PT kickoff against Idaho. The match, which will be UW's Camper Reunion Match, will be streamed live on B1G+.
