Toney Breaks Vault Record On Eventful Weekend
July 14, 2025 | Track & Field
SEATTLE – The summer track season is in full swing for Huskies past and present whether here at home or abroad, and this past weekend saw numerous big marks at multiple meets.
One of the biggest came from recently graduated senior Scott Toney, who flew to a new PR for the second straight meet down in Chula Vista, Calif. at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center, in the MVA High Performance Invite. Toney cleared 18-9 1/2 in his Husky singlet, breaking Scott Roth's 2011 School Record by one centimeter. That also ties Toney for eighth among all Americans this year and 28th overall in the world.
Also in Chula Vista, Hana Moll and Amanda Moll competed for the first time since finishing first and third at NCAA Outdoors. Hana cleared 14-4 1/2 and Amanda cleared 14-0 1/2. Prestin Artis also competed in the long jump, going 24-3.
In Lignano, Italy on Sunday, Chloe Foerster, Amina Maatoug, and Maggie Liebich all raced with Mia Cochran doing some pacing duties. Maatoug and Liebich both clocked huge 1,500-meter PRs, both going under 4:10 for the first time, Maatoug all the way down to 4:05.67 as she placed second overall. Liebich cut her PR from 4:12 down to 4:08.59. Chloe Foerster ran the 800-meters for the first time in a few months, and ran 2:02.34.
Also in Lignano, Ronan McMahon-Staggs ran a 3:38.92 time for the 1,500-meters.
Just a couple days earlier, another big 1,500m PR was ticked off by Julia David-Smith, racing in Ireland at the Morton Games. David-Smith ran 4:10.03, cutting over three seconds off her career-best. Cochran was also in that race, going 4:15.78. David-Smith has also previously run a 3k in Ireland in 8:59.35 at the Cork City Sports meet, and a 5,000m PR of 15:39.97 at the National Meeting de Carquefou in France.
Former Husky Eleanor Fulton ran well, taking fifth in the 1,500m in 4:04.81. And another Dawg grad, Brian Fay, was fifth in the men's mile in 3:52.98.
The Sound Running Sunset Tour was held on Saturday in Los Angeles, at Occidental College. Incoming transfer Chloe Thomas ran her second 15:18 5k time of the season, going 15:18.40. That was a couple spots behind former Husky Kayley DeLay, who ran 15:07.77.
In the men's 5k, Acer Iverson was second in his heat in 13:37.40, while incoming freshman Josiah Tostenson ran 14:15.94.
A couple former Dawgs ran in the men's steeplechase, as Aaron Ahl ran 8:24.30 and Julius Diehr came across in 8:33.73.
