SEATTLE β The men's Husky tennis team has been selected for the NCAA Championship Tournament to start this weekend.
On Monday, the NCAA selection show announced the 64 teams that had been selected to participate in the championship tournament. It was announced that Washington will head to Arizona to take on Harvard in the first round of the tournament. Washington and Harvard square off at 10 a.m. Pacific time on Friday morning, followed by the Wildcats taking on Denver at 1:00 p.m. The winners move on to meet on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for a spot in the Round of 16.
The announcement came after the completion of the Big Ten Tournament last weekend where the Dawgs made it to the semifinals round before being stopped by first seed Ohio State.Β
Β
The DawgsΒ head into the postseason ranked a season-high No. 37, which helped them earn the at-large bid. They also finished out the regular season with a 8-5 record in conference play and an overall record of 17-8.Β
Washington last made the NCAA tournament in 2022 where they lost to Pepperdine in the first round. Current Husky seniors Cesar Bouchelaghem, Nedim Suko, and Dzianis Zharyn were freshmen on that squad.Β
UW is seeking its first win in NCAAsΒ since 2013 when it defeated Notre Dame in the opening round, 4-3, before falling to Ohio State in round two. This is UW's 23rd NCAA Championships appearance. Five times the Huskies have made the Round of 16 for the best finish in program history, most recently in 2006.
Harvard is ranked 21st nationally going 19-6 and tying for second in the Ivy League with a 5-2 record behind Columbia. Daniel Milavsky is ranked 34th nationally in singles and Peter Benjamin Privara is ranked 90th. The Crimson also have two ranked doubles teams. Privara and Masato Perera are ranked 39th, and Milavsky and Lins are ranked 58th. UW has a 1-1 all-time record against Harvard.
