April 25, 2025 | Men's Tennis
SEATTLE -
The Huskies took down Nebraska today in the quarterfinals round of the Big Ten Championship Tournament.
With a first round bye, the Dawgs got placed directly into the quarterfinals round, taking on fifth seed Nebraska.
In a strong start, the Dawgs won the doubles round leading to an early on lead. Wins from this round were from doubles duo Cesar Bouchelaghem and Dzianis Zharyn as well as Brett Pearson and Rohan Belday.
The rest of the match proved to be a little harder with matches going neck and neck. With three wins needed in the singles round to clinch the match, Nebraska took the first match of the night evening out the score 1-1. Nedim Suko came out strong, though, taking his match against Nikolay Sysoev 6-4, 6-4. Cesar Bouchelaghem promptly followed, beating Anton Shepp in the third set, 2-6, 6-0, 6-4.
Nebraska responded with two wins of their own, leveling the score to three all.
With one last match playing out for the win, Soham Purohit clinched the win for the Dawgs taking down his opponent 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. The Huskies came out on top in a 4-3 win.
"The team was prepared for a battle today, and that's exactly what it was. We did a great job from start to finish. We did a good job sneaking out the doubles point and found a way to get through some tough three-setters in singles. We are excited for another battle tomorrow," said Head Coach Rahim Esmail.
This match pushes them into the semifinals where they will take on the No. 1 seed Ohio State in an 8:00 a.m. PDT matchup tomorrow.
