
Washington Drops Game Three Against Illinois On Sunday

SEATTLE โ The Huskies couldn't close out the weekend sweep on Sunday, falling to Illinois 3-1 at Husky Ballpark.

Despite the loss, Washington claimed its fourth Big Ten series victory over the weekend. The Diamond Dawgs move to 21-20 on the season and 11-7 in the Big Ten while Illinois improves to 22-15 and 10-8 in conference play.

Justin Tims made the start on Sunday, tossing 4.0 innings while allowing three runs on seven hits. He punched out two batters as well.

The game was scoreless heading into the third inning. With two outs and a runner on second, Colin Jennings from Illinois hit a ball hard into right center field.

A streaking Malakhi Knight leapt from the warning track and made a miraculous catch over the wall, saving two runs and a robbing a long ball. It was Knight's second home run robbery this year after pulling off a similar play in Nebraska.

In the fourth inning, the Illini scored all three of their runs to take the lead.

Gunnar Nichols took over on the mound in the fifth and pitched three scoreless innings of one-hit ball while fanning five batters. Josh Emanuels came out for the eighth and ninth innings and contributed two strikeouts of his own.

The Huskies got on the board in the sixth before loading the bases but were unable to add more than a single run from a Jackson Hotchkiss RBI.

Washington returns to action on Tuesday, April 22 for the series finale against Seattle U. The teams will meet at Seattle U's Bannerwood Park at 4:05 p.m.
