AZUSA, Calif. โ Just a handful of events were on the agenda today for the Dawgs at two different meets in Southern California, but UW pounced on its chances with wins and records in the 800-meters and the javelin.
ย
Kyle Reinheimer shattered the men's School Record at 800-meters, and Sophie O'Sullivan ran a blazingly fast 800m time to lead the women. Early in the day, the Huskies got a dynamic debut from Sofia Cosculluela in the women's heptathlon, then late at night three new top-10 marks were posted in the men's 5,000-meters.
ย
Bryan Clay Invitational
ย
Washington's distance crew started up two days in Azusa, Calif. at Cougar Stadium with a focus on the 800-meters this afternoon.
ย
Reinheimer, an indoor All-American who briefly held the indoor 800m School Record before it was broken by his own teammate Justin O'Toole, staked his claim to the outdoor record today with the fastest two laps ever by a Husky, indoors or out.
ย
Reinheimer not only got the record, but the win, coming from fifth-place around the final turn and passing everyone on the outside to stop the clock in 1:46.09. That broke teammate Nathan Green's record of 1:46.23 set last summer. It also puts him up at No. 4 in the NCAA this season.
ย
ย
Also shooting up to No. 4 in the NCAA was O'Sullivan, who made a triumphant return to the collegiate scene after she was home in Australia during winter quarter, competing unattached down under with no remaining indoor eligibility. The Irish Olympian at 1,500-meters challenged some of the best 800-meter runners in the NCAA and took third in 2:00.61. That was just off her PR, but the fastest she's run during the collegiate season. With Chloe Foerster's 2:00.52 time two weeks ago at Stanford, the Huskies have two of the fastest 800m times in the nation and in school history.
ย
There were more strong women's 800m times behind O'Sullivan. Claire Yerby lowered her PR with a time of 2:04.47, going to No. 8 in school history. Maggie Liebich clocked a time of 2:06.68, and Stephanie Driscoll finished in 2:08.05.
The night wrapped up with five Husky men spread out over three sections of the 5,000-meters. In the first heat, Acer Iverson and Evan Jenkins placed third and fifth, respectively, in a big 25-man field. Iverson ran 13:33.67 and Jenkins had a PR time of 13:35.03, as the two moved up to No. 4 and No. 5 in Husky history. The last race of the night, which ended close to 11:30 p.m., was won by a Dawg, as Jamar Distel took 12 seconds off his PR and won his heat in 13:37.54, a time that puts him into the Top-10 list for the first time at No. 7. Also charting solid times tonight was Leo Daschbach, who ran 13:53.00, and Tyrone Gorze, who went 13:54.94.

Mt. SAC Multis
ย
Starting things off this morning at Mt. SAC was the second days of competition in the heptathlon and decathlon for Sofia Cosculluela and Jami Schlueter.
ย
Cosculluela proved she'll be a factor on the national stage as she completed a two-day total of 5,817 points, going to No. 4 in the NCAA this season and No. 2 in Husky history behind 2023 grad Ida Eikeng. She started the day with a long jump of 19-5 1/2 and then she connected on a PR in the javelin, going 146-11. She finished in the 800-meters with a time of 2:21.75. Her score would have easily made the cut for NCAA Outdoors a year ago and it's hard pressed to imagine it won't wind up in the top-24 this year as well.
ย
Schlueter started his second day in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.64. He threw 134-3 in the discus, then cleared 14-9 in the pole vault. With the javelin, Schlueter threw 152-7, and he then ran the final 1,500-meters in 4:46.71. That wrapped up a two-day total score of 7,562 points.
ย
Javelin At Mt. SAC Relays
ย
The one field event at Mt. SAC today was the men's and women's javelin, with four Huskies in action. All-American transfer Leonie Troeger made her Husky and season debut today, getting a best toss of 161-feet, 10-inches. That puts her up to No. 7 in Husky history already after just one meet. Ashley Schroeder had a best of 149-6 today.
ย
For the men, Jack Olsen had back-to-back throws of 216-3, both ones just three inches short of his career-best. That won the men's collegiate section. Carson Olmstead also had a best of 200-7.
Briggs Sharpens Steeple Speed
One Husky distance runner got separated from the pack, racing at Mt. SAC instead of Bryan Clay. That was Isaac Briggs, who went in the invitational steeplechase and crushed his PR by another nine seconds. Briggs, the redshirt freshman, took second overall in a time of 8:43.26, which is less than two seconds away from the UW top-10 list and it currently ranks 21st nationally.
