
Huskies Drop Series Against No. 10 UCLA

LOS ANGELES – Washington fought all the way through the ninth inning but was unable to complete the comeback against No. 10 UCLA on Sunday, falling 13-9 at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
Washington moves to 18-19 on the season and 9-6 in Big Ten play while UCLA improves to 28-7 and 12-3 in conference games.
The Huskies struck first in the rubber match, scoring three in the top of the third inning. Malakhi Knight kicked things off with a hard-hit single to center field and the Huskies capitalized on a fielding error which brought home Casen Taggart. Knight advanced to third on the play.
Sam DeCarlo then brought the boom once again, hitting his second homer in as many days to put Washington up 3-0. DeCarlo now has seven on the season, the most on the team.
Over the third, fourth, and fifth innings, the Bruins opened a six-run lead with three runs in each inning.
The Huskies responded with three runs in the seventh, starting with a Braeden Terry two-RBI double to right field. Jackson Hotchkiss came up next and sent Terry home with an RBI single through the left side.
UCLA chipped in two more in the seventh and one in the eighth before the Huskies battled back once more.
In the top of the ninth, Carson Crawford singled to center field, scoring Jackson Hotchkiss. AJ Guerrero then used a single of his own to score Crawford and Colton Bower to conclude Washington's scoring.
Justin Tims made the start on Sunday, tossing 3.0 innings with six hits and three runs allowed. He added one strikeout against two walks as well in his outing.
Josh Emanuels, Reilly McAdams, Gunnar Nichols, and Will Woodward all pitched in relief on Sunday combining for the remaining five innings.
The Huskies return to action on Tuesday, facing off against Seattle at Husky Ballpark.
