
Carter Clinches, UW Takes Down Rutgers 4-0

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The No. 21 Washington women's tennis team (9-1) finished an east coast sweep this weekend, defeating Rutgers 4-0 Sunday in the first ever matchup between the Huskies and Scarlet Knights.
Doubles play proved successful yet again for Washington, as second and third doubles toughed out a pair of battles to come away with the doubles point.
McKenna Koenig and Carina Syrtveit won their sixth straight match at No. 3 doubles. The match went to a tiebreak to decide the winner, with the Huskies going down 4-1 before winning six straight points to clinch the match and the doubles point.
Syrtveit and Sophie Luescher won quickly on courts six and five, respectively, giving the Huskies a 3-0 advantage.
Reece Carter capped things off for Washington with her first win on the top court, besting Rutgers' Nguyen, 7-5, 6-2 to clinch the sweep.
Erika Matsuda, Alexia Jacobs, and Koenig each dropped a first set and were midway through the second when Carter clinched.
The Huskies head back to Seattle for a pair of B1G home matches against USC on Friday, March 14 followed by the UCLA Bruins on Sunday the 16th.
