
UW In Third After Day One Of Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational

LAHAINA, Maui – The Washington women's golf team opened play at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational with a strong performance, finishing the first round in third at five-under par.
Three Huskies posted rounds under 72. Freshman Athena Ni, who carded four birdies and an eagle to post a two-under, placing her tied for 10th out of 98 competitors. Vivian Lu also tied for 10th, recording an eagle on the front nine to finish two-under. Carmen Lim also had a solid performance, finishing one-under with a score of 72, placing her 24th.
Washington had four players competing as individuals in this tournament. Jenny Chang led the group, tying for 16th at one-under, followed by Maddie Smith in 24th with an even-par round. Jamie Hsieh carded a two-over round to sit in 48th, while Kennedy Knox finished the day in 70th at four-over.
Wendy Tang wrapped up the first round in 38th, placing 5th out of Washington's lineup after shooting one-over, with Amber Li just behind in a tie for 48th at two-over.
Five teams finished under par after round one, with Mercer Island (-6) leading the field. Oregon State (-5) in second, Washington (-3) in third followed closely by Denver (-4) and Sacramento State. Gonzaga currently sits at even par in fifth.
"Proud of their discipline," Head Coach Mary Lou Mulflur said. "We didn't make too many mistakes and were very consistent with our game plan. Putts will start dropping if we just stick to our process."
The Huskies will return to the course for the second round on Tuesday, teeing off in a shotgun start at 11 a.m.
