
Washington Sweeps Rutgers

SEATTLE – Washington softball swept its Saturday doubleheader in run-rule fashion against Rutgers at Husky Softball Stadium. The Huskies took game one 9-0 (5 innings) and followed with a 12-0 (5 innings) decision in game two.
The Huskies improve to 23-9 on the season and 3-2 in Big Ten action.
Alycia Flores led the team, going 5-for-6 with a double, a home run and five RBI over the two games. Tia Durst (3-for-5) added four RBI and Alexis DeBoer (3-for-4) drove in three.
As a team, the Huskies combined for 21 hits and four extra base hits.
RUTGERS 0, WASHINGTON 9 (5)
Stevie Hansen (7-1) got the start in game one, tossing a one-hit shutout with a walk. She took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before a leadoff single ended the bid. Hansen struck out four batters along the way.
After two scoreless innings, the Huskies broke through with four runs in the third. Back-to-back walks to Jadyn Glab and Ava Carroll brought up DeBoer who's single down the left line scored Glab. Flores reached on an error that drove in another run and a Durst double scored the final two runs of the inning.
Washington went on to add five runs in the fourth to move into run-rule territory. With two on and one out, Charity Sevaaetasi come on to pinch hit a sent a single up the middle to score a run. A Giselle Alvarez hit by pitch loaded the bases for Flores who cleared the bases with her seventh double of the season. Riley Peschek drove in the final run on a single to left.
Hansen retired the side in the top of the fifth to secure her seventh win of the season.
RUTGERS 0, WASHINGTON 12 (5)
Morgan Reimer (9-4) got the nod in the second game, going four innings of one-hit ball while fanning three. Sophia Ramuno threw an inning with two strikeouts to close out the game.
Washington picked up right where they left off, plating four runs in the second. Two on and one out, Durst sent a single through the left side to score Flores. Peschek reached on a fielder's choice but being caught in a rundown allowed both runners to cross home. Glab's single allowed Bubke – who hit a single in the previous at bat and stole second – to score.
The Huskies added three runs in the third on a couple of defensive miscues.
UW went on to add five runs in the fourth highlighted by a two-run single by DeBoer and a two-run home run from Flores. Haley Winckler had a pinch-hit RBI single to plate the 12th run of the game.
The Huskies are back at Husky Softball Stadium to host Cal Poly on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. and streaming on B1G+.
