SEATTLE – Washington fell behind early and saw its ninth inning comeback fall short Sunday versus Gonzaga, falling 9-6 as the Bulldogs completed a series sweep at Husky Ballpark.

Starter Tommy Brandenburg took the loss for the Huskies, allowing five runs (four earned) on three hits and a pair of walks. Reliever Gunnar Nichols provided two scoreless frames out of the bullpen.

Gonzaga put together a two-out rally to take an early lead in the first, plating three runs on a single, a wild pitch and an error to go up 3-0.

The Bulldogs tacked on two more in the second on Gage Mestas' RBI double and Hudson Shupe's sac fly, extending the lead to five.

A Trevor Kole two-out single up the middle with the bags full in the third cut the deficit down by two, but Gonzaga got one back in the fifth on a Husky error in the field, going up 6-2.

Matthew Henning singled and came around to score on a delayed steal to pull Washington within three in the home half of the fifth.

Gonzaga piled on three crucial runs in the top of the ninth and UW's rally fell short for the third game in a row, surrendering the series sweep.

Washington will remain at home for a pair of midweek games Tuesday and Wednesday, hosting Pacific Lutheran. Both games are scheduled for 5:02 p.m., streaming on BigTenPlus.com.

• Jackson Hotchkiss went 2-for-3 Sunday, finishing the series with a team-high five hits
• Washington brought at least the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning in all three games of the series, but were unable to complete the comeback in any of the weekend's games
