
Road Trip Continues In Hawaii

HONOLULU – Washington softball closes its 12-day road trip at the OUTRIGGER Invitational hosted by Hawaii beginning on Wednesday. The Huskies will play six games over four days against Jackson State, Howard and Hawaii.

LAST TIME OUT
Washington competed at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic and finished with a 3-2 record with wins over UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara and Fresno State. Jadyn Glab led the team with four home runs and eight RBI while batting .357. She was tied for the second-most RBI amongst all teams at Mary Nutter and tied for the most home runs. Freshman Sophi Mazzola posted a .375 average with eight RBI and two home runs. Against UC Santa Barbara, Mazzola was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. D1Softball named Glab and Mazzola to its All-Tournament Team. The pitching staff posted a 1.81 average and held opponents to a .190 average. Stevie Hansen led the way with a 1.35 ERA in 10.1 innings while Sophia Ramuno posted a 1.50 ERA. Ramuno and Morgan Reimer had 13 strikeouts each to lead the team.
A NEW ERA FOR WASHINGTON
The 2024-25 athletic year marks the inaugural season in the Big Ten Conference for Washington Athletics. On Aug. 2, 2024, the Huskies became official members of the Big Ten along with UCLA, USC and Oregon.
DEBUT MOMENTS
During the first three weeks of the season, 16 Huskies made their debut in the Purple and Gold. Ten saw time in game one against Alabama - Alexis DeBoer, Charity Sevaaetasi, Alycia Flores, Riley Peschek, Gabi Toney, Addie Craig, Morgan Reimer, Ava Carroll, Tia Durst, Rylee Rehbein and Sophi Mazzola. Three more saw time in the second game of the day against Arizona - Jade Bubke, Stevie Hansen and Sophia Ramuno. Madi Balk made her Washington debut during week two against Utah Valley. Freshman Annika Ticen made her debut as a pinch runner against UC Riverside on Feb. 20.
OPENING WEEKEND SUCCESS
Dating back to 2014, the Huskies are 50-8 during opening weekend. In 2023, the Huskies went 4-1 at the Mark Campbell Invitational with the lone loss coming against Oklahoma. In 2024, UW went 3-1 at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge with the lone also coming against the Sooners in extra innings. Prior to that, Washington went undefeated the previous three seasons over opening weekend.
AMONG THE ACTIVE LEADERS
Fifth year senior Alycia Flores ranks 48th in NCAA Division I among active players with 120 RBI. Her 190 games played is tied for 20th most.
NO-NO
Senior pitcher Stevie Hansen threw the 51st no-hitter in program history against UC Riverside at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Feb. 20. It was the second no-hitter of Hansen's career - her first came against Utah Valley in 2023 when she was at Oregon. The lone base runner in the game came in the first inning, reaching on an error.
DAWGS WORLDWIDE
This summer, freshman Morgan Reimer played for the Canadian Junior National Team at the U-18 Softball World Cup Group Stage, helping the team qualify for the 2025 World Cup. During the event, Reimer posted a 0.00 ERA with a 2-0 record over 14.2 innings. She struck out 29 batters and threw a perfect game against Australia. Additional this past summer, head coach Heather Tarr and former Husky Sis Bates led Team USA to a silver medal at the WBSC World Cup Finals. Taran Alvelo joined Team Puerto Rico for the World Cup. Baylee Klingler represented Team USA in the Japan All-Star Series. Representing Team Mexico this summer were Lindsay Lopez and Jillian Celis at the Canada Cup.
TOUGH SCHEDULE
Washington has a tough schedule ahead with eight teams ranked on receiving votes in the preseason NFCA poll. The Huskies opened the season with four of their first five games against a ranked team in then-No. 11 Alabama and then-No. 16 Arizona. The Week 3 NFCA poll sees five opponents in the poll in No. 4 UCLA, No. 12 Arizona, No. 14 Oregon, No. 18 Nebraska and No. 22 Alabama. Additionally, Grand Canyon, Cal and Boise State are receiving votes.
ROAD DAWGS
The Huskies will open the first five weeks of the season in the road beginning at the Candrea Classic (Feb. 7-9). Washington will then head back down to The Grand Canyon State for the Littlewood Classic (Feb. 14-16). The Dawgs will continue their road swing with a 12-day trip beginning at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic (Feb. 20-23) then traveling to Northridge for the first mid-week contest of the season versus CSUN on Feb. 24. UW will then head over to Hawaii for the OUTRIGGER Invitational (Feb. 26- March 1). The final tournament of the season will come at the Black and Orange Classic in Pocatello, Idaho (March 8-10). In total the Dawgs will travel almost 11,200 miles over the first five weeks. Washington will make their first appearance at Husky Softball Stadium for the Big Ten opener against Oregon, March 14-16.

The all-time winningest coach in Washington Athletics history, Heather Tarr eclipsed 800 career wins last season. Her career .721 winning percentage ranks 11th among active Division I softball head coaches. Her 828 wins are 24th most among active coaches. Jackson State enters the weekend with an overall record of 10-2. The Tigers went 3-0 last weekend at the Capital City Classic with wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Tuskegee and Grambling State. As a team, JSU is batting .325, the 53rd best in the NCAA so far this season. The 42 stolen bases is ninth-best in Division I. Ariana Mutillo leads the offense with a .522 average with a double and three RBI. Her .633 on base percentage is 11th best in the NCAA. Jace Jackson has 15 RBI to go with a .385 average. Ka'Liyah Gipson is 10-for-10 in stolen bases. The pitching staff is led by Sofia Gonzalez with a 1.27 ERA and a 4-0 record. Over 22.0 innings, Gonzalez has three complete games with a shutout and nine strikeouts. Brooklyn Morris leads the team with 15 strikeouts in 21.1 innings.

Angel Riggins leads the team with a .371 average with four stolen bases, five doubles, six RBI, seven runs scored and 13 hits. Sidney Fletcher leads the team with two home runs. Ameenah Ballenger has worked a majority of the innings (28.1) with a 3-2 record with 15 strikeouts. Julia Holt leads the team with 22 strikeouts thrown in 24.2 innings.

Hawaii enters the weekend with a 10-6 overall record. Last weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, UH went 1-4 with a win over Nevada. They also picked up a win at Cal Baptist. Senior pitcher Addison Kostrencich earned Big West Pitcher of the Week honor after a 2-1 weekend after posting a 2.17 ERA in 19.1 innings with a walk and 11 strikeouts. Izabella Martinez leads the team with .373 average with three RBI, four doubles and 19 hits. Chloe Borges leads the team with 12 RBI and tied for the team lead with two home runs along with Jamie McGaughey, Liliana Thomas and Kayara-Leigh Tulloma.
ALL-TIME VS. HAWAII
Washington and Hawaii have met 16 times previously with the Huskies owning the overall series, 14-2. The last meeting between the two programs came in 2021 when UW traveled to Honolulu for a three-game series.
