Washington Drops Series Opener At Stanford
February 21, 2025 | Baseball
STANFORD, Calif. โ The Huskies played a strong defensive game against the undefeated Cardinal at Sunken Diamond, but ultimately fell 2-0 to Stanford in the first game of a four-game series on Friday afternoon.
ย
Washington moves to 2-3 on the season while Stanford improves to 5-0.
ย
Stanford scored a solo home run on the first pitch of the game, but was unable to generate much more offense through the contest thanks to sound pitching and defensive work from the Huskies. Stanford's second run came on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning.
ย
The Cardinal has been one of the best offenses in college baseball so far this season, scoring nine or more runs in three of its first four games before facing Washington.
ย
Max Banks made his second start for the Huskies, again throwing 6.0 innings. This time, he allowed two runs and struck out two batters, while also walking four batters.
ย
Washington's ace is averaging 6.0 IP and has a 1.50 ERA through his two starts this season.
ย
The Husky batters combined for four hits on the day, including two doubles coming from Jackson Hotchkiss and Colton Bower. It was each players' second double of the season.
ย
In the sixth and seventh innings, the Huskies advanced runners to second and third base, but on both occasions, Washington couldn't find the finishing blow to drive in the runs. The Dawgs finished the day with six runners left on base.
ย
Jackson Thomas, Saywer Parkin, and Jase Evangelista each pitched in the game after Banks finished his day. The trio combined for two scoreless innings, no walks, and four punchouts, including a strikeout from Parkin to end the seventh inning with the bases loaded.
ย
Washington returns to action against the Cardinal on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Reilly McAdams will be on the mound for the Huskies, facing off against Stanford left-handed pitcher Christian Lim.
