Casen Taggart Launches First Husky Homer as Washington Falls to Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. β Senior transfer Casen Taggart crushed his first home run in the purple and gold but Washington ultimately fell to Coastal Carolina, 11-1 in seven innings on Sunday afternoon. Washington moves to 1-2 on the year.

In the third game of the weekend for the Dawgs, Tommy Brandenburg took the mound, his first appearance for the Huskies after missing last season with injury. He finished his day with five innings pitched, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out two.

Justin Tims took over for Brandenburg in the sixth, making his Washington debut. Jase Evangelista also pitched in the game, throwing 1.1 innings and striking out two batters while allowing two hits and one run.

Washington hitters tallied four hits on the day including Taggart's homer, with Trevor Kole leading the way with two hits in his three at bats. Kole is batting .545 through three games, with two hits in each contest to start the season.

Malakhi Knight was the third Husky to record a hit against the Chanticleers, knocking a single up the middle of the in the third inning.

The Huskies return to action in their final game of the Baseball at the Beach Tournament tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. PT against Saint Joseph's.

- Senior Division III transfer Max Bank threw six scoreless innings along with nine strikeouts on Friday
