SEATTLE – Two singles players and two doubles teams entered Saturday with a chance to clinch a spot in the NCAA Championships, and all were successful.
Full results from today's play and tomorrow's schedule can be found here.
In a battle of Dawgs against Dawgs in the ITA Sectionals doubles semifinals Saturday morning at Nordstrom Tennis Center, Washington was guaranteed a spot in doubles of the NCAA Championships no matter what. Marie Weissheim and Alexia Jacobs came out victorious against fellow teammates Jermine Sherif and Reece Carter, clinching their spot as a doubles pair at NCAAs.
Erika Matsuda and Carina Syrtveit also earned their first ever trip to the NCAA tournament, defeating a USC pair in straight sets to punch their ticket.
Although they lost today, Sherif and Carter will have a chance to secure a spot in the NCAA Championships, this year held in Orlando, Fla., with a win tomorrow in doubles play.
On the singles side, Carter and Matsuda both clinched their spot in NCAAs. Carter won 7-5, 6-4 over Stanford's Caroline Driscoll and Matsuda defeated Cal's Greta Greco Lucchina, 6-3, 6-4.
Matsuda is now set to play in singles and doubles on the NCAA stage.
The pair is set to play at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow in NTC and will be the last UW match of the weekend.
