Pearson, Purohit Drop Sectionals Opener In Tiebreak
November 06, 2025 | Men's Tennis
BERKELEY, Calf. -- Facing the tournament's No. 1 overall seed in the opening round, Huskies Brett Pearson and Soham Purohit pushed things to the limit but wound up just a couple points shy of the upset at ITA West Sectionals, hosted by California. Pearson and Purohit dropped a third set super-tiebreak, 10-8, at Hellman Tennis Complex.
The tournament is the last qualifier for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships held in two weeks in Florida. Purohit is qualified already in singles but was looking to add a doubles bid with Pearson. They drew No. 1 seeds Chang and Razeghi of Stanford, and won the first set in a tiebreak, 7-4, but then lost a tight second set, 5-7, setting up the 10-point third set tiebreak which went the Cardinal's way.
Pearson and Purohit are slated to play in the back draw on Friday.
