Purohit Begins NCAA Singles Tourney Tuesday

2025 NCAA Singles Championship
Nov. 18-23
Orlando, Florida | USTA National Campus
SEATTLE – Year two of the fall-based NCAA Men's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships begins this week. College tennis will name a new champion in singles and doubles over the next week, and Husky junior Soham Purohit is among the 64-player singles field, debuting in his first NCAA Championship on Tuesday, Nov. 18.
In the first round on Tuesday, Purohit will face Bryan Hernandez Cortes of Mississippi State, with first serve scheduled for 8:00 a.m. PT / 11:00am ET.
Prior to 2024, the singles and doubles tournaments have taken place in the spring following the NCAA team tournament. Coaches agreed to change the dates of the individual tournaments for 2024 and 2025, while keeping the team championship in the spring. Rather than qualifying from individual ITA rankings, for this pilot program, players have won their way in through multiple tournament roads. Purohit qualified by winning the ITA Northwest Regional in October, becoming the first Husky to win that title since 2002.
The singles tournament starts on Tuesday and is scheduled to conclude Sunday, with a round played each day. Central Florida and USTA are serving as tournament hosts in Orlando, Florida at the USTA National Campus. ESPN+ will live stream the tournament matches.
Soham Purohit's appearance marks back-to-back years that Washington has been represented at the NCAA Singles Championships as Ceasar Bouchelaghem made the tournament last November where he advanced to the second round. This will mark the third time in the past four tournaments that the Huskies will be represented in the NCAA Singles Championship.
