ITA Northwest Regionals Up Next For The Huskies

SEATTLE – Another opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships awaits as the Washington women's tennis travels to the Bay Area for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northwest Regional Championships.
Eight Dawgs will compete in the tournament with action beginning on Friday and running through Tuesday at Hellman Tennis Complex & Channing Tennis Courts in Berkely and Timothy Korth Tennis Complex in Moraga.
Players from 17 teams will be represented in the competition from Cal, UC Davis, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon, Pacific, Portland, Portland State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Seattle U, Stanford, Washington and Washington State. From the regional, the two singles finalists and the doubles champion will qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships.
The Huskies have three singles players ranked in the latest ITA rankings in Reece Carter (#68), Karolina Kozakova (#95) and Erika Matsuda (#96). Two doubles teams are ranked in Alexia Jacobs/Marie Weissheim (#24) and Matsuda/Carina Syrtveit (#64).
Three doubles pairs in Jacobs/Weissheim, Matsuda/Syrtveit and Carter/Jermine Sherif earned first round byes and will begin play on Saturday at 9 a.m. The duo of Waverly Potter and Zehra Suko will open the tournament at 9 a.m. on Friday in doubles.
In singles, Potter will begin her run at 11 a.m. on Friday against Portland's Kennedy Harris for a spot in the main draw. Sherif, Jacobs, Matsuda, Weissheim, Carter, Syrtveit and Suko will open singles action on Saturday.
