SEATTLE – The Huskies and new Interim Head Coach Steve McFadden made their fall return to Alki Beach today on day one of the two-day Alki Fall Classic. Washington battled and won the lion's share of Saturday's matches as they look to earn bids to the AVCA National Pairs Championships.
Taking on pairs from Oregon, Boise State, and Saint Mary's, the Huskies earned three of four spots in the semifinals of the championship bracket. No. 1 overall seeds Teila Allen and Katarina Pantovic advanced with two straight-set wins. They'll face teammates Sarah Wilcock and Emma Hohenauer in one semi, as Wilcock and Hohenauer had a 15-9 third set win over a Duck pair to make the semis.
On the other side of the draw, new Dawgs Ella Tyus and Zoe Pabarcus beat a Boise State pair in three sets in the opening round, then outlasted teammates Ella Wimmer and Ellis Hay in the next round in another three setter to make the semis. They'll face a Boise State pair to try and make it an all-Husky final.
The semifinals are set for 10:15 a.m. on Sunday and the final for 12:45 p.m.
