No. 14 Huskies Fall In Final Minutes To No. 2 Maryland
October 31, 2025 | Men's Soccer
COLLEGE PARK, Md. โ No. 14 Washington dropped its first game in over a month on Friday in a 1-0 defeat to No. 2 Maryland.
The Huskies move to 10-4-2 on the season and 7-2-0 in Big Ten play.
The two squads were well matched as each team traded blows throughout the first 45 minutes. The Huskies launched two shots in the first half compared to three from Maryland.ย
The game opened up more in the second half, however. Eight of Washington's ten shots came in the second period while the terrapins fired 14 shots over the final 45.
Cameron Cruz nearly had the Huskies in front in the 76th minute.ย
He began a run and went through multiple defenders into the box. Cruz then launched a shot on target, but the Maryland keeper was able to get a hand to it and keep the game scoreless.
In the 83rd minute, Maryland crossed a ball into the box where Jadon Bowton was unable to punch it clear after he collided with a Terps forward. Another Maryland player found the ball after the collision and poked it in for the only score of the game.
Washington continued to search for a goal over the final seven minutes and had multiple near misses.ย
Despite the loss, the Huskies are one of only three teams this season to hold Maryland to one or less goals. Jadon Bowton made four key saves on 17 shots, including a point-blank one-on-one stop to prevent a goal.
Washington used largely the same lineup for the full 90 minutes. Jadon Bowton, Harrison Bertos, Egor Akulov, Asher Hestad, Zach Ramsey, Alex Hall, Richie Aman, Cameron Cruz, and Connor Lofy each played the full 90.ย
Mani Diop and Nick O'Brien were the only substitutes used by the Huskies in the match.
The Huskies now trail Maryland by two points in the conference standings. In order to clinch the regular season Big Ten Championship, Washington will need to win against UCLA on the final day of the regular season and Michigan State needs to defeat Maryland.
ย The Dawgs return to action for senior day on Friday, November 7 at 5 p.m. at Husky Soccer Stadium.
