SCOUTING THE TERRAPINS
The Terrapins sit second in the Big Ten standings and have yet to suffer a defeat this season, owning a 10-0-3 record, including a 6-0-2 mark in conference. Maryland is one point behind the Huskies in the Big Ten standings. They are led by Stephane Njike and Sadam Masereka with six goals each. As a team, Maryland has conceded only nine goals while scoring 35.
This contest will be Washington's second top five matchup of the year after opening the season at No. 4 Denver. The Huskies have won each of their last two ranked matchups after defeating No. 12 Indiana and No. 13 Rutgers.
Washington's last time facing a No. 2 team or higher in the regular season came in 2023 at No. 1 Stanford where the No. 14 Dawgs battled to a 1-1 draw.
SERIES HISTORY
Washington trails in the all-time series, owning a 1-2-0 record. The Huskies sole win against the Terrapins came in 2018 by way of a 2-0 victory at Husky Soccer Stadium. Last season, Maryland claimed a 3-2 win over Washington on Montlake.
LAST MEETING (10/11/2024)
SEATTLE – The Washington men's soccer team took the lead twice Friday night against No. 9 Maryland but were unable to hold the advantage, falling 3-2 at Husky Soccer Stadium.
Washington outshot the Terrapins 18-12 on the night, with both teams putting seven shots on frame.
Washington jumped ahead early in the 12th minute on Chris Meyers' first goal of the season, an exquisite free kick strike from a few yards outside the left side of the 18. Aided by a deflection off the wall, Meyers' rocket bent past the oustretched keep, bulging the side netting.
However, the Terrapins answered quickly as Max Rogers beat Jadon Bowton to his left to level the score at 1-1, with that score holding into the halftime break.
The Dawgs once again started fast out of the restart, jumping back ahead in the 50th minute as Cooper Burnell pounced on a rebound from Richie Aman, slotting his shot into the right side of goal to put UW back in front at 2-1.
Maryland, though, once again had a near immediate answer after a foul was called inside the 18 in the 51st minute. Leon Koehl converted from the spot, tying the match at two goals apiece.
With both sides chasing the decisive moment, it was the Terps that had the last say, scoring in the 74th minute to go ahead 3-2.
Washington had a last ditch effort to equalize with 14 seconds left on the clock after a foul outside the left side of the 18, but Maryland was able to clear, locking up the points.
CONFERENCE TITLE ON THE LINE
The Huskies can clinch the Big Ten regular season championship on Friday with a win at No. 2 Maryland. With a draw, Washington can still claim the title with a win against UCLA in the regular season finale. If Maryland wins, The Huskies can still clinch the title with a win over UCLA if Maryland loses to Michigan State on the final day of the regular season.
BIG TEN TOURNEY IMPLICATIONS
Maryland and Washington are battling for more than just the regular season title.
The 2025 Big Ten Men's Soccer Tournament is a four-team event that will kick off at the home site of the tournament's No. 1 seed on Wednesday, Nov. 12, with a pair of semifinal games. The championship match will be played Sunday, Nov. 16, with the champion earning the Big Ten's automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament. Both semifinals and the championship match will be televised live on the Big Ten Network and can be streamed via the web, smartphones, tablets and connected devices through FOX Sports Go and the FOX Sports App.
5-0 SHUTOUT FOR SIX STRAIGHT WINS
The Dawgs absolutely dominated the Buckeyes 5-0 on Friday night to claim their sixth win in a row. Charlie Kosakoff contributed a brace while Alex Hall chipped in a goal and assist to lead Washington to the big win.
With the win, Washington has now scored at least five goals in a game three times this season. The Huskies also improve to 9-0 when scoring first and 8-0 when scoring in the first half.
Four Huskies found the back of the net with Alex Hall scoring the game-winning goal, Charlie Kosakoff tallying a brace, and Conner Leber and Clarens Dollin each scoring the second goals of the season.
The Huskies took care of business on both sides of the ball, shutting out the Buckeyes to earn their fifth clean sheet in the last six games. Jadon Bowton earned his seventh win and his fourth shutout of the season. He made a season-high seven saves while facing 15 shots.
FIVE STRAIGHT
Washington used its same approach, early and often offense, to take down the Nittany Lions. The first 45 minutes were completely dominated by the Huskies with 12 shots and two goals for the visitors against only two attempts for Penn State.
Washington got on the board in the 26th minute when Joe Dale controlled a cross at the top of the box and laid it off for Connor Lofy. The midfielder struck it cleanly and pinned the top right corner of the goal to send the Huskies in front. Eight minutes later, the Huskies doubled the lead. Joe Dale was credited with an assist in the buildup to Charlie Kosakoff, who sent a cross in the air to Zach Ramsey in the box. Ramsey caught the ball on the volley and rocketed it into the net for the second goal of the game.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Jadon Bowton and Egor Akulov are the latest Huskies to claim Big Ten weekly honors. Bowton was named goalkeeper of the week after making a season-high six saves while facing 15 shots against Ohio State. Akulov helped preserve the clean sheet, earning defensive player of the week honors while playing 87 minutes in the shutout victory.
HERMANN TROPHY RECOGNITION
Richie Aman was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List thanks to his impactful play all season long. Aman currently is second in the nation with 11 total assists and second in assists per game at 0.73. His 17 total points are the fourth most in the Big Ten and 51st in the NCAA as well.
The 2025 midseason watch list was compiled by members of the Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List Committee. A total of 15 players will be named 2025 Hermann Trophy semifinalists on December 9 at the conclusion of NCAA Division I All-American voting. From that list, head coaches will cast votes, and three players will be named finalists. The 2025 recipient will be announced January 9, 2026, in a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis, Mo.
Aman has had multi-assists games on five occasions, including against both Rutgers and Indiana, and moves into a tie for fourth in the Husky record book for assists in a single campaign (11).
CLASS OF THE BIG TEN
Four of the top eight players in total points in the Big Ten are Huskies. Zach Ramsey (6g, 6a) is second in the league and first for the Huskies with 18 total points. He's followed closely by Richie Aman (3g, 11a) and Charlie Kosakoff (7g, 3a) in fourth with 17 points. Alex Hall (4g, 7a) is eighth in the Big ten with 15 points.
As a team, Washington leads the conference in shots on goal percentage (46.3%) and goal differential (26), second in goals scored (38), second in assists (42), second in shots (227), second in shots on goal (105), second in goals allowed (12).
The Huskies lead the conference with 21 points and a 7-1 record while Maryland is in second with 20 points and a 6-0-2 record.
INTO THE RANKINGS
The Huskies entered both the United Soccer Coaches and Top Drawer Soccer rankings in week seven and have moved up in each poll since. After the 5-0 rout of Ohio State, the Huskies sit at No. 14 in both polls and No. 27 in the RPI.
OFFENSIVE OPPORTUNITIES
The Huskies have been applying the pressure in every game this season, recording more shots than their opponents in 10 of 15 games. Washington is 9-0-0 when scoring first and 8-0-0 when scoring in the first half. During the six-game win streak, the Huskies have outscored their opponents 15-1.
As a team, the Huskies' offense ranks among the best in the country. Washington is third in total goals (38), fifth in total points (118), and eighth in total assists (42).
HALL ON THE SCENE
Hall has become a crucial part of the Huskies' offense of late. Most recently, he netted the game winner against Ohio State and dished an assist as well. He also scored the game-winning goal against Indiana before assisting another strike later in the match.Against Northwestern, he provided a crucial assist to the game winner scored by Harrison Bertos. At Wisconsin, he assisted the game-winning goal against Wisconsin. And earlier this season against Gonzaga, Hall bagged his first career brace while chipping in an assist for a career-high five points. He now has a career-high 15 points on the season (4g, 7a).
Hall currently ranks 17th in the NCAA and third in the Big Ten in total assists (7) and 30th in the NCAA and fifth in the Big Ten in assists per game (.47).
WASHINGTON STATS
In addition to its top-10 marks in total goals, points, and assists, Washington is one of the best teams in the nation across the board.
The Dawgs rank fourth in scoring offense (2.54), fourth in goal differential (26), fifth in points per game (7.87), eighth in assists per game (2.80), 12 in shots on goal per game (7.00), 21st in corner kicks per game (6.33), 21st in won-lost-tied percentage (.733), 21st in shots per game (15.13), 29th in team goals against average (0.800), 32nd in shutout percentage (.467), and 36th in shot accuracy (.463).
DAWG DEBUTS
12 Huskies have made their Washington debuts in the first two matches of the season. Levi Bieber, Brecken Bowers, Cameron Cruz, Clarens Dollin, Jaeger Felton, Carter Gay, Osato Enabulele, Sheehan Ganguly, Philip Kleeman, Zack Meier, and Kevin Hernandez, and Chad Sovde all featured during the first four games of the season.
BRICK WALL KEEPERS
While the Huskies offense has been hot lately, the defense has been just as impressive. Washington has shutout their opponents in the last five of the last six games, including two top-15 opponents in then-No. 12 Indiana and then-No. 13 Rutgers.
Bowton has started each of the last four games, allowing just one goal during that stretch while collecting four wins. Against Rutgers, Bowton prevented an equalizer by saving a penalty kick in addition to four other stops for a season-high five saves. He then set a new season-high with six saves in the shutout win over Ohio State. Bowton has a 7-2-1 record this season with four shutouts.
Bieber has made five starts this season and has led Washington to three shutouts and a 3-1-1 record in those games. Bowton has made seven starts, earning a 4-2-1 record with two shutouts.
Bieber tied a career-high four saves last time out while facing a career-high 19 shots in a 1-0 shutout victory at Northwestern. Earlier this season, in his second career appearance, Levi Bieber recorded his first win and shutout. Bieber has two complete game shutouts and one combined shutout on the year.
PICKED FIFTH IN CONFERENCE
Entering year two in the Big Ten conference, Washington has been picked to place fifth in the 11-team league.
Washington finished 8-6-7 last season, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies ended the season with a 4-3-3 record in Big Ten play, finishing fourth in the league with 15 points.
HOMEGROWN TALENT
Washington's roster features 19 of 29 players who hail from the state of Washington. Four players claim Seattle as their hometown (Asher Hestad, Joe Dale, Cameron Cruz, and Jaeger Felton), while two each are from Spokane (Kenny Pierpoint and Jadon Bowton), and from Bellevue (Sheehan Ganguly and Chad Sovde).
CREAM OF THE CROP
In 14 season on Montlake, Jamie Clark has orchestrated the meteoric rise of Washington men's soccer, distinguishing the team as one of the nation's top college soccer programs. Prior to the start of the 2025 season, Clark has led the Huskies to a record of 175-68-40, three Pac-12 titles, and 11 trips to the NCAA Tournament. Of those postseason appearances, Clark's Huskies have made four trips to the NCAA Quarterfinals, including three straight NCAA Quarterfinals appearances from 2019-21.
Clark currently ranks seventh in winning percentage among active head coaches with a .696 percentage in 17 career seasons.
