SEATTLE โ Tomorrow morning in East Lansing, Michigan, the Husky cross country squads line up for their second run at the Big Ten Championships. The Big Ten Network will televise Friday's races live starting at 7:30 a.m. Pacific time. Washington placed second in both the men's and women's races a year ago in its Big Ten debut.
ย
Michigan State plays host to the meet, taking place at Forest Akers East Golf Course. The men's 8,000-meter championship race will be up first at 7:35 a.m. Pacific / 10:35 a.m. Eastern and then the women's 6,000-meter championship goes at 8:35 a.m. Pacific / 11:35 a.m. Eastern.
ย
This is just the third race of the season for both Husky squads, aside from the season-opening dual meet with Seattle U. Both teams followed the same path, traveling to the Loyola Lakefront Invite in Chicago on Oct. 3 and then racing at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Oct. 17. The women placed fourth at Loyola and 13th at the Wisconsin meet, while the men were 8th at Loyola and 28th at Wisconsin.
ย
The women's team is ranked 20th nationally heading to Big Tens.
ย
The women's conference field is strong this year, with Oregon coming in at No. 4, and joined in the top-25 by No. 8 Northwestern, No. 12 Penn State, No. 19 Wisconsin, the Huskies at 20, and the host Michigan State at No. 24.
ย
On the men's side, Oregon is the top-ranked team as well at No. 10, followed by No. 13 Michigan State, No. 15 Wisconsin, and No. 25 Michigan.
ย
Expected to race on Friday for the women are Mia Cochran, Abby DeVeau, Chloe Foerster, Brianna McInnis, Isabel Olson, Maeve Stiles, Jenica Swartz, Sam Tran, and Josephine Welin.
ย
The men will run eight, including Isaac Briggs, Cruize Corvin, Thom Diamond, Jamar Distel, Parker Mong, Nathan Neil, Reuben Reina, and Josiah Tostenson.
ย
Last year, the women put six runners in the top-20 to take second in the team race, but only two of those six are back to race this year. Chloe Foerster was sixth-place a year ago and Maeve Stiles placed 17th.
ย
The men finished second last season just 12 points behind Wisconsin, but only one of their top-five and two of the top-seven return this weekend. Jamar Distel was the No. 3 Husky last year in 14th overall, and Nathan Neil was 33rd in his freshman effort. Thom Diamond and Isaac Briggs also gained experience last season and will look to significantly improve on their 2024 finishes.
ย
All-Big Ten First Team honors go to runners finishing 1st through 10th, and Second Team distinction goes to places 11 through 20.
