Huskies Finish Fourth And Fifth At Big Tens
October 31, 2025 | Cross Country
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Led by Jamar Distel and Chloe Foerster, the Husky cross country teams each finished in the top-five in the large Big Ten Championship field today at the Forest Akers East Golf Course, the home site of Michigan State. The Husky men's team finished fifth out of the 15-team field, and the 20th-ranked women placed fourth out of 18 teams, beating out a pair of top-25 squads to help their postseason chances.
The women scored 103 points to finish fourth, just seven points behind 8th-ranked Northwestern as No. 4 Oregon got the win and No. 12 Penn State was second. The Huskies finished well ahead of 24th-ranked Michigan State (147 points) and 19th-ranked Wisconsin (164 points).
The men were hoping to pick off one of the four top-25 teams in the Big Ten field, but came up just short despite a valiant effort, still finishing in the top third of the conference pecking order. 10th-ranked Oregon won with 36 points, No. 13 Michigan State was second with 68, No. 15 Wisconsin was third with 90, and No. 25 Michigan was fourth with 100 points, followed by the Huskies in fifth with 135, then Purdue, Minnesota, Penn State, UCLA, and Ohio State rounded out the top-10.
Distel turned in one of the best performances of his career to finish fifth overall today in 23:29 and lead the Husky men. He earned All-Big Ten First Team honors with that performance, as he ran at the front of the race for the first 4k, then held strong up front in the second half.
Next after Distel, Nathan Neil crossed as the No. 2 Dawg in 21st-place in 23:56. Isaac Briggs moved up well throughout to finish 30th after he was 44th at the 4k mark. Reuben Reina was 38th overall in his first Big Ten meet, and Thom Diamond capped the scoring in 47th overall in 24:24. Briggs improved his Big Ten finish by 67 spots compared to a year ago, while Diamond was 37 spots better. Nathan Neil was also up 12 spots compared to 2024 and Distel moved up nine places.
The women were led by Foerster, who was 11th overall in a time of 20:20 for the 6,000-meters. Senior Maeve Stiles had her second-straight top-20 finish at the Big Ten meet, finishing 15th today in 20:25. She was just 37th at the 2k split but moved up consistently every kilometer.
Also rising up through the field throughout was Abby DeVeau, the grad student but first year collegiate runner who was in just the second race of her career today. DeVeau had been playing for UW's club rugby team before transitioning to track and cross country this fall, and she amazingly grabbed some Big Ten hardware with a 19th-place finish in 20:31. Foerster, Stiles and DeVeau all earned All-Big Ten Second Team status.
The fourth scorer for the women was Mia Cochran, who was 22nd in 20:33, as the top-four Huskies were separated by just 13 seconds. Sam Tran capped the scoring in her final Big Ten run, as she was 36th in 20:52. Tran was a key for the Huskies today, and she finished a whopping 88 places higher than last season. Jenica Swartz (53rd) and Josephine Welin (96th) completed the Husky top-seven.
In another two weeks, the Huskies will try to race their way to nationals. The NCAA West Regional meet is the key to unlocking the final race. Sacramento will be the location for West Regionals on Friday, Nov. 14.
