
Washington Looks For Fifth Straight Win At Penn State On Monday

SEATTLE - No. 21 Washington concludes its Big Ten road trip at Penn State on Monday night. The Huskies, who are searching for their fifth straight win, have allowed zero goals in their last four matches.

SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS
Washington looks for its fifth straight victory on Monday night against Penn State. The Nittany Lions are 5-5-3 on the season including a 1-3-2 mark in Big Ten games. Ben Madore leads the team with five goals and one assist for a team-high 11 points.
SERIES HISTORY
The Huskies own a 2-0 record against Penn State, winning the first matchup in 1996 before also taking the win last season in Big Ten play.
LAST MEETING (10/18/2024)
SEATTLE – Peter Kingston's recorded his first brace as a Husky in Washington's 3-1 victory over Penn State on Friday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.
Washington moves to 5-4-5 on the season and 2-3-3 in the Big Ten.
It is the first time the Huskies have scored three goals in a match since October 5, 2023 against San Diego State.
UW's first goal came off Chris Meyers' pass into Zach Ramsey who sent it into the box for Kingston find the back of the net. Meyers extends his team lead to six assists on the year and his second consecutive game with a point.
Ramsey was fouled in the corner of the 18 to draw the penalty kick in the 32nd minute. Charlie Kosakoff took the shot from the spot and sunk his fourth goal of the season to double the lead.
A ball got behind the Washington back line and Penn State capitalized with their first goal of the match in the 62nd minute.
The Huskies tacked on another when Caden Buckley brought the ball up the far side and sent into the box for Kingston who scored his second goal of the match in the 69th. It is Kingston's second career brace after he also scored one at Air Force in 2022 when he was with Seattle U.
BACK TO BACK RANKED WINS
Early offense has been key during the recent win streak, and Friday's victory was no different. Joe Dale kicked off the scoring in the 10th minute, bagging his first goal of the season off the feed from Richie Aman.
With the win over Rutgers, Washington is now 7-0 on the year when scoring first and 6-0 when scoring in the first 45 minutes.
The second goal came when Richie Aman began a move in transition, finding Cameron Cruz on the left side of the pitch. Cruz delivered a ball into the box and Nick O'Brien slotted it home to double the lead.
It was the first point of the season for Cruz and O'Brien's first goal of the season. Aman, meanwhile, recorded his 10th and 11th assists of the season against Rutgers.
DOWN GOES INDIANA
Washington continued its hot streak, earning a third consecutive victory by dismantling No. 12 Indiana 3-0 at Husky Soccer Stadium. It's the Huskies' first ranked win of the season.
The Huskies took the lead just 20 minutes into the match when Richie Aman found Alex Hall on the left side of the box for an emphatic goal. Hall now has three goals on the season and it was the first of two assists on the night for Aman. The breakthrough for the second goal came in the 74th minute when an Alex Hall cross was struck perfectly on the volley by Charlie Kosakoff. Nick O'Brien was instrumental in the buildup, earning an assist on the play. Washington wasn't finished yet, however. The Dawgs found a third goal in the 83rd minute as Richie Aman's corner kick was hammered home off the head of Asher Hestad for his first career goal.
The Huskies were supported by 2,805 cheering fans on Friday night, the 13th-largest crowd UW men's soccer has seen at Husky Soccer Stadium.
HERMANN TROPHY RECOGNITION
Richie Aman was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List thanks to his impactful play all season long. Aman currently sits second in the nation in total assists with nine and third in assists per game at 0.75.
The 2025 midseason watch list was compiled by members of the Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List Committee. A total of 15 players will be named 2025 Hermann Trophy semifinalists on December 9 at the conclusion of NCAA Division I All-American voting. From that list, head coaches will cast votes, and three players will be named finalists. The 2025 recipient will be announced January 9, 2026, in a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis, Mo.
B1G TIME PLAYERS
Asher Hestad and Alex Hall were named Big Ten Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week after the big win over then-No. 12 Indiana.
Hestad had the best game of his career so far in Washington's first ranked win of the season. The sophomore defender put the game away by scoring his first goal to put Washington up 3-0. He also played a career-high 90 minutes while making his third ever start for the Huskies.
Alex Hall has cemented himself as an offensive engine in the midfield, tallying at least one point in six of the last seven matches. Hall scored the game winner against Indiana before also setting up Charlie Kosakoff for the second goal of the game. It was Hall's second multi-point game and he now has six assists on the season, the second-best mark on the team.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Harrison Bertos was tabbed the Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week on October 7 after leading the Huskies to wins against Northwestern and Indiana.
Bertos has been a defensive force for Washington in the last three matches, helping keep Wisconsin, Northwestern, and then-No. 12 Indiana from scoring a goal. Additionally, Bertos bagged the game-winning goal against Northwestern for his second game-winning goal this season.
CLASS OF THE BIG TEN
Four of the top nine players in total points in the Big Ten are Huskies. Richie Aman leads Washington and sits second in the conference with 17 points. Zach Ramsey is right behind with 14 in fourth. Charlie Kosakoff and Alex Hall are each tied for ninth with 12 points.
As a team, Washington leads the conference in shots on goal percentage (45.4%), is third with 31 goals scored, is second in goal differential (20), second in assists (33), and fourth in shots on goal (83).
The Huskies currently sit second in the Big Ten table with 15 points, behind Maryland with 17. Washington has played one less conference match than the Terrapins.
INTO THE RANKINGS
The Huskies entered both the United Soccer Coaches and Top Drawer Soccer rankings last week after the ranked win over Indiana. The Dawgs are the No. 21 team according to United Soccer Coaches and No. 20 by Top Drawer Soccer in week 8.
OFFENSIVE OPPORTUNITIES (Stats last updated prior to Oct. 17 vs. Rutgers)
The Huskies have been applying the pressure in every game this season, recording more shots than their opponents in eight of 13 games. The Huskies currently rank 16th in the NCAA in corner kicks per game, averaging 6.58 per contest. The Huskies have scored 29 total goals, led by Zach Ramsey and Charlie Kosakoff with five apiece.
The Huskies offense ranks among the best in the country as well. Washington is second in the conference and 10th in the NCAA in scoring offense (2.42), 12th in Total points (87), and 13th in total goals (29).
HALL ON THE SCENE
Hall has become a crucial part of the Huskies' offense of late. He scored the game-winning goal against Indiana before assisting another strike later in the match.Against Northwestern, he provided a crucial assist to the game winner scored by Harrison Bertos. At Wisconsin, he assisted the game-winning goal against Wisconsin. And earlier this season against Gonzaga, Hall bagged his first career brace while chipping in an assist for a career-high five points. He now has 12 points on the season and has at least one point in six of the last eight games.
Hall currently ranks 19th in the NCAA and second in the Big Ten in total assists (6) and 25th in the NCAA and second in the Big Ten in assists per game (.50).
WASHINGTON STATS
The Huskies are one of the best offensive teams in the NCAA, ranking in the top-20 in multiple statistical categories. Washington is 10th in scoring offense (2.42), 12th in total points (87), 13th in total goals (29), 13th in points per game (7.25), 14th in goal differential (18), 16th in total assists (29), 16th in corner kicks per game (6.58), and 19th in assists per game (2.42).
TOP DISTRIBUTORS
Richie Aman and Alex Hall have distinguished themselves as two of the premier passers in the NCAA. Aman is second in the NCAA in total assists (9) while Hall is 19th in the country (6). They sit first and second in the Big Ten rankings as well.
In the per game stats, Aman is third in the country and first in the Big Ten (0.75) while Hall is 25th in the NCAA and second in the conference (0.50).
Aman has had multi-assists games on five occasions, including against both Rutgers and Indiana, and moves into a tie for fourth in the Husky record book for assists in a single campaign (11).
DAWG DEBUTS
12 Huskies have made their Washington debuts in the first two matches of the season. Levi Bieber, Brecken Bowers, Cameron Cruz, Clarens Dollin, Jaeger Felton, Carter Gay, Osato Enabulele, Sheehan Ganguly, Philip Kleeman, Zack Meier, and Kevin Hernandez, and Chad Sovde all featured during the first four games of the season.
BRICK WALL KEEPERS
While the Huskies offense has been hot lately, the defense has been just as impressive. Washington has shutout their opponents in the last four games, including two top-15 opponents in then-No. 12 Indiana and No. 13 Rutgers.
Bowton earned both ranked shutouts, making multiple big saves in the wins. Against Rutgers, Bowton prevented an equalizer by saving a penalty kick in addition to four other stops for a season-high five saves. It's Bowton's fifth win of the season and his third shutout.
Bieber has made five starts this season and has led Washington to three shutouts and a 3-1-1 record in those games. Bowton has made seven starts, earning a 4-2-1 record with two shutouts.
Bieber tied a career-high four saves last time out while facing a career-high 19 shots in a 1-0 shutout victory at Northwestern. Earlier this season, in his second career appearance, Levi Bieber recorded his first win and shutout. Bieber has two complete game shutouts and one combined shutout on the year.
PICKED FIFTH IN CONFERENCE
Entering year two in the Big Ten conference, Washington has been picked to place fifth in the 11-team league, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Washington finished 8-6-7 last season, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies ended the season with a 4-3-3 record in Big Ten play, finishing fourth in the league with 15 points.
HOMEGROWN TALENT
Washington's roster features 19 of 29 players who hail from the state of Washington. Four players claim Seattle as their hometown (Asher Hestad, Joe Dale, Cameron Cruz, and Jaeger Felton), while two each are from Spokane (Kenny Pierpoint and Jadon Bowton), and from Bellevue (Sheehan Ganguly and Chad Sovde).
CREAM OF THE CROP
In 14 season on Montlake, Jamie Clark has orchestrated the meteoric rise of Washington men's soccer, distinguishing the team as one of the nation's top college soccer programs. Prior to the start of the 2025 season, Clark has led the Huskies to a record of 175-68-40, three Pac-12 titles, and 11 trips to the NCAA Tournament. Of those postseason appearances, Clark's Huskies have made four trips to the NCAA Quarterfinals, including three straight NCAA Quarterfinals appearances from 2019-21.
Clark currently ranks seventh in winning percentage among active head coaches with a .696 percentage in 17 career seasons.
FRESH FACES
The Huskies welcomed six freshmen to the squad this fall. Kenny Pierpoint (GK), Clarens Dollin (MF/F), Carter Gay (D), Kevin Hernandez (MF), Zack Meier (D), and Osato Enabulele (MF) all enter their first season on Montlake. In addition to the first years, the Huskies also welcomed Cameron Cruz (MF), a transfer from Grand Canyon to the squad.
