
UW Beats UNLV 77-62 In Exhibition Tune-Up

SEATTLE – Washington shot 52 percent and dominated the paint in a 77-62 exhibition win over UNLV on Sunday at Alaska Airlines Arena.
The Huskies outrebounded the Rebels 44-33 and outscored them 44-28 in the paint.
Freshman Hannes Steinbach netted a double-double in his first game in purple and gold, putting up 24 points and 16 rebounds, both team-highs.
Bryson Tucker, a sophomore transfer from Indiana, was second on the team in scoring, with 14 points, converting 6 of 9 field goal attempts.
Freshman JJ Mandaquit led the team in assists with 12, tacking on nine points.
Mandaquit and Steinbach got the Huskies started early. Steinbach scored six of Washington's first 11 points and Mandaquit assisted three of the team's six made shots going into the first timeout with Washington leading 13-6.
With the score being 29-15, UNLV looked to build momentum, scoring five unanswered, but back-to-back buckets from Steinbach extinquished the threat. The Huskies led 39-25 at the half, shooting 50% from the field and outrebounding the Rebels 25-16. Steinbach had 14 points and 7 rebounds at the break.
The second half started with the teams going back and forth, as Mandaquit assisted the first three scores for the Huskies.
The Huskies continued to make it challenging for UNLV in the second half and held the Rebels to 34 percent shooting and just 22 percent from three in the game.
