
Cochran, Neil Lead Huskies At Wisconsin

MADISON, Wisc. – Senior Mia Cochran led the women and sophomore Nathan Neil led the men as the Huskies had their second race of the season this morning at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. Washington's 18th-ranked women's team finished 13th overall in a loaded field of thirty teams, while the men's squad placed 28th overall.
The women's team scored 364 points for 13th overall, with the twelve teams ahead of them all ranked in the top-30, and 10 of those 12 ranked in the top-20.
Cochran finished 28th overall individually to lead the Dawgs, running 20:23 for the 6,000-meters. Senior Maeve Stiles was next across in 50th-place in 20:37.
Chloe Foerster finished 84th as the No. 3 scorer and then the Dawgs got a big boost from Abby DeVeau, a first-year squad member but a senior academically who played for the UW club rugby team for several years. DeVeau, in her first big collegiate cross country race, was 93rd overall in 21:05. Rounding out the scoring was Sam Tran in 109th overall.
Josephine Welin finished 192nd overall and Jenica Swartz finished 201st.
Neil made his season debut and led the men's squad in 61st overall, but the Dawgs had a couple runners drop out today which took them from inside the top-20 in the team race at the midway point, to 28th in the final standings.
Neil ran 24:02 for the 8,000-meter course. Jamar Distel placed 118th as the second Husky finishes in 24:36. Isaac Briggs was third for UW in 137th, moving up 21 spots over the final 2k. Parker Mong was 190th overall, and Thom Diamond finished 212th. Cruize Corvin came across in 220th. Reuben Reina and Josiah Tostenson did not finish today.
Also racing today in the women's B race was Isabel Olson. She finished with a time of 22:22 to place 51st overall.
Next time out for the Dawgs will be the Big Ten Championships, going down this year in East Lansing, Mich. hosted by Michigan State on Oct. 31.
