July 09, 2024 | Women's Basketball
SEATTLE β During her final season for the Huskies, Lauren Schwartz was known as a coach on the floor, someone who took on any role to help her team. Today, head coach Tina Langley announced, her role as coach would continue from the sidelines as Schwartz was named Assistant Coach for the Washington women's basketball program.Β
Schwartz will enter her foray into coaching at her alma mater, where she joins the Washington staff after graduating from the program following the 2023-24 season. Lauren spent three years in the purple and gold while completing her bachelor's in public health and Master's in Entrepreneurship from the Foster School of Business. On the court, Schwartz was a two-time All-Pac-12 selection and amassed over 1500 points Β and 300 assists.Β
"We're so excited that Lauren will continue to be a part of this program as a mentor and role model," said Langley. "Lauren has always demonstrated a heart for others, an incredible basketball mind, and a competitive drive towards excellence. She bleeds our culture; she embodies our values and lives out our standards daily. Her love for our young women and for this university runs deep. We're so grateful to have her join our coaching staff!"
In her five seasons as a student-athlete, Schwartz started in every game she played in her career (144 total, 88 at UW), and accumulated 1,534 points (900 at UW), 454 rebounds (224), 317 assists (189), 117 steals (80), 42 blocks (30), 556 made-FGs (334), 183 made-3FGs (112), and 239 made-FTs (120).
In 2023, Schwartz helped lead the Huskies to their first postseason appearance since 2017 and did it in consecutive years when UW earned another postseason berth in 2024 for her final season.Β
"I am truly grateful for the opportunity to become an assistant at the University of Washington. From day one, I have believed in Coach Langley, her vision for this program, and the exceptional way she leads others. The University of Washington is a special place that holds a unique significance for me, and I am thrilled to continue being a part of this incredible journey. There is nowhere else I would rather be."
