
Washington To Face South Dakota State In NCAA First Round Matchup

FORT WORTH, TEXAS — For the second straight season, the Washington women's basketball team will play in the NCAA Tournament.
The Huskies (21-10, 10-8 Big Ten) will face the South Dakota State Jackrabbits (27-6, 14-2 Summit) in a first round matchup at Schollmaier Arena on the campus of TCU on Friday, March 20.
Friday's first round game will be televised on ESPN News at 11:30 a.m. PT with Chuckie Kempf (play-by-play) and Brooke Weisbrod (analyst) announcing.
Jason Dorow and Elise Woodward will call the action for the Dawgs on 950 KJR-AM.
The winner of UW/South Dakota State will advance to the Round of 32 to face either 3rd-seed TCU (29-5) or 14th-seed UC San Diego (24-8) inside Schollmaier Arena. Tip-off time is TBD.
Friday will be the first all-time meeting between Washington and South Dakota State and will be the 20th NCAA Tournament appearance for the Dawgs.
HUSKIES IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
The last time UW was in the Big Dance (excluding the First Four) was 2017, when the Dawgs advanced to the Sweet Sixteen against Mississippi State.
In the regular season, the Huskies faced 15 teams that are slotted to play in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, with 11 of those being Big Ten opponents. Washington also faced Southern, UC San Diego, Vermont, and Green Bay.
LAST TIME OUT - BIG TEN TOURNAMENT
The Huskies concluded their second season as members of the Big Ten with a 10-8 conference record, the most victories since the 2016-17 season.
Washington earned a second round win against USC, before falling to No. 1-seed UCLA in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
UW has won three of its last four matchups heading into NCAA action.
Three Huskies earned Big Ten postseason honors, led by Sayvia Sellers, who notched a spot on the All-Big Ten First Team. Avery Howell was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention, while Brynn McGaughy earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

Last year in NCAA play, South Dakota State beat Oklahoma State in the first round, but fell to UConn in the Round of 32.
The Jackrabbits enter tournament play with a 27-6 record overall and 14-2 in league action, with their two conference losses coming to North Dakota State and South Dakota.
