SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Conference Announced it postseason awards on Tuesday prior to the start of the Pac-12 Tournament, with four Washington Huskies recognized.
Cam Clayton was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, while Aiva Arquette was tapped as an All-Pac-12 honoree in addition to joining Clayton on the All-Defense Team. Additionally, Grant Cunningham and AJ Guerrero earned honorable mention laurels.
Clayton is the second Husky ever to be named the league's defensive player of the year, joining Erik Forgione in 2014. In a career filled with highlight reel plays up the middle, the Husky shortstop has raised his game to another level in 2024. Clayton has committed just four errors all year, good for a .980 fielding percentage, the highest among league shortstops, and has played a part in 24 double plays.
For Arquette, it's the first All-Pac-12 recognition of the star second baseman's career and marks the third straight season at least one Husky has earned All-Pac-12 honors. The sophomore ranks 11th in the conference in batting average at .333 overall, but has stepped it up a notch in league play. Arquette's 10 home runs against Pac-12 foes is the fourth most in the conference, ranking third in runs scored (33), fifth in hits (42) and 10th in slugging percentage (.611) in Pac-12 play.
A fellow sophomore, Cunningham earns his first Pac-12 postseason recognition after a stellar season out of the bullpen. The Husky clover holds one of the league's lowest ERAs at 2.68, surrendering just 14 earned runs over 19 appearances and 46.0 innings. Cunningham provided three or more innings of work in six relief appearances in 2024.
Meanwhile, Guerrero lands on the All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention list for the second season in a row. The junior slugger struggled early on but found his footing in league play, posting a .304 batting average against Pac-12 opponents with eight home runs, 33 RBIs, eight home runs and six doubles. Guerrero has been hot down the stretch, posting 26 hits over the last 12 games.
