Utah Secures Salt Lake Series Over The Huskies
April 21, 2024 | Baseball
SALT LAKE CITY – Washington fell behind early and could never climb back in Sunday's series finale at Smith's Ballpark, falling 14-3 as Utah secured the series.
Spencer Dessart wore the loss for UW, allowing three runs (two earned) while collecting one out.
The Utes got off to a fast start, plating three runs on four hits in the first and adding two more on back-to-back two-out RBI singles in the second, making it 5-0 early.
Cam Clayton got the Huskies on the board in the fourth, hammering a high-flying solo homer onto the berm in left, cutting into the Ute lead.
But Utah answered right back in the fifth, scratching across three more to push its lead back out to 8-1.
Cooper Whitton brought home a run for the Huskies in the sixth with an RBI grounder but that would be as close as the Huskies would get as the Utes blew the game open with six runs in the eighth.
Cooper Whitton led off with a solo home run in the ninth but it was too little, too late
Washington stays on the road in the midweek, though far closer to home, making the trip across Lake Washington Tuesday to Bannerwood Park in Bellevue, Washington, to take on Seattle U at 4 p.m. PT. The game will be available for streaming on WACInternational.tv.
