SEATTLE – Washington takes its pair of Top-10 programs to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston this week, chasing titles, team points, and All-America honors. The men's and women's weight throws, featuring UW's record-breaking Jayden White on the men's side, were moved to Thursday and thus will open up the championships before the remainder of the events take place on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 8-9.
Ranked fifth on the men's side and 10th on the women's side, the Huskies have 10 men's entries at the championships and six on the women's side. The 10 men's entries is tied for the fourth-most nationally.
Boston College and UMASS Lowell are jointly hosting the meet, which is taking place for the first time at The TRACK At New Balance. The meet schedule divides up the women's and men's events into afternoon and evening sessions each day, to better follow the team title races.
Thursday's weight throw begins at 3 p.m. Pacific time, 6 p.m. Eastern, with White looking for a third-consecutive top-five NCAA finish. He comes in seeded third nationally.
Friday gets going early for West Coast followers, as Bruno Comin Pescador starts the men's heptathlon at 6:30 a.m. Pacific time. Comin Pescador will be in the midst of his fourth event of the day when the next Huskies get going with the men's pole vault at 11 a.m. Pacific. Men's running events start at 1 p.m. Pacific with the mile semifinals, featuring defending champion Luke Houser and Joe Waskom. The first women's field event is the pole vault at 3 p.m. with Hana Moll and Nastassja Campbell. Women's running events go off at 4 p.m. and will run through the end of the women's DMR at approximately 6:15 p.m. Pacific.
Saturday follows a similar schedule with Comin Pescador starting his final three events at 7:30 a.m. Pacific, then the men's track session beginning at 1 p.m. and the women's session starting at 4 p.m.
The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+ with two sessions each day. There will be a re-air of the championships at 6 p.m. Pacific on Monday, March 11 on ESPNU.
Team placing as always is based upon scores put up by the individuals and relays. Every individual event and relay awards points for the top-eight finishes, with 10 points for first, 8 for second, 6 for third, then 5-4-3-2-1 for places four through eight. The USTFCCCA All-America format also remains the same, with First Team status for top-eight finishers, and Second Team status for 9-16 finishers.
The men's team had a history-making fourth-place team finish in 2023 scoring 31 points, the best in Washington history, and comes into this meet ranked fifth, which matches the season-high. The Dawgs jumped from 21st in 2022 up to fourth last year.
The women's team has been as high as No. 6 nationally this season and is currently No. 10. The women tied for 24th-place a year ago with eight points. Sixteen points is the most scored at NCAA Indoors in women's team history, in 2016 (13th-place) and in 1988 (8th-place).
