Jeter Ybarra Tapped As Pac-12 Player Of The Week
March 18, 2024 | Baseball
SAN FRANCISCO – Fresh off a red-hot weekend leading the Huskies to a pair of top-15 upsets on the diamond, Washington first baseman Jeter Ybarra has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, announced Monday by the conference office.
Ybarra led the offensive charge as the Dawgs took 2-of-3 games on the road at No. 14 Texas. During the series, Ybarra batted .636 with five RBIs and three runs scored.
The San Jose, California, native becomes UW's first Pac-12 Player of the Week since 2019, when Braiden Ward earned the nod.
Ybarra put the Longhorns on notice early in the series, going 5-for-5 in the series opener with three doubles and four RBIs as the Huskies defeated Texas 9-3. The redshirt-junior drove in UW's first three runs of the game, including a game-tying two-run single in the seventh as the Dawgs completed a late comeback.
Ybarra's 5-for-5 showing was the first five-hit game for a Washington player since 2019.
The Ohlone College product collected at least one hit in all three games of the series and is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak.
Pacing the Huskies with a .324 batting average for the season, Ybarra is also demonstrating more pop in 2024. Ybarra has already eclipsed his entire extra-base hit production from 2023, eight, with 10 doubles and a home run this season.
