Papatheodorou, Suliafu Reel In All-Region Honors
December 04, 2024 | Women's Soccer
KANSAS CITY, Mo. β After leading the Huskies to a breakout season in 2024, Washington women's soccer's Ioanna Papatheodorou and Kolo Suliafu have been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region teams.
Β
The Dawgs' leading scorer on the season, Papatheodorou was tabbed to the second team, while defensive leader Kolo Suliafu was selected to the third team.
Β
Behind the play of the pair as well as several other standout players, Washington made its mark in its first season in the Big Ten, earning a top-5 league finish and advancing to the Big Ten Tournament Semifinals. The Huskies earned their first NCAA Tournament bid since 2020-21, advancing to the second round past No. 25 Utah State.
Β
It is the first time the Huskies have had multiple all-region honorees since that 2020-21 campaign, when Summer Yates, Kaylene Pang and Ameera Hussen were all recognized.
Β
It is the third all-region selection for Papatheodorou, who was twice named United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region at UMass Lowell before making the move to Montlake. The senior enjoyed a stellar swan song campaign, pacing the Huskies with eight goals en route to First Team All-Big Ten accolades.
Β
The Greek international finishes her prolific career with 32 total goals and 12 assists, scoring 12 times and dishing out eight helpers over two seasons in Purple and Gold. Papatheodorou made her mark on the international stage as well, representing Greece during 2025 European Championship qualification.
Β
Meanwhile, Suliafu proved to the Big Ten what Pac-12 foes had known for two seasons, that one of the nation's premier defensive forces does her work in Seattle. With the Second Team All-Big Ten performer leading the back line, UW matched the program records with just 12 goals conceded and 11 clean sheets secured in 2024.
Β
Suliafu started all 21 matches during her junior season and has made 36 straight starts at defender, including a streak of 2,378 consecutive minutes on the pitch. Across her three seasons at Washington, Suliafu has helped lead the Huskies to 22 shutouts.
