
UW Closes Out Fall With Sweep Of Head Of The Lake

The Washington men's rowing team won every race in which it competed Sunday at the Head of the Lake Regatta, taking top honors in every men's collegiate in the fall season finale.

The Head of the Lake Regatta is a time-trial head race that runs from the south end of Lake Union, through Portage Bay and the Montlake Cut and ends in Lake Washington's Union Bay, near Conibear Shellhouse. Races were held in 41 categories for men's and women's college, juniors and masters crews.

In the morning's opening event, Washington's top men's crew won the Ben Porter Cup, for Collegiate/Open Men's Eights. UW finished in 14:29.350, nearly 50 seconds in front of second-place Oregon State.

In the Collegiate JV Eights, Washington's second varsity shell completed the course in 14:42.219, more than 56 seconds ahead of another Oregon State crew.

The Huskies took the top three spots in the Men's Collegiate 3V8+ event, with the three UW boats finishing in 15:00.123, 15:10.315 and 15:49.624, respectively, in a field of 10 entries.

Later in the morning, Washington's two entries in the Men's Championship 4+ Sponsored by Pocock Racing Shells finished in first and second place, separated by a margin of less than a half a second, with times of 17:02.514 and 17:02.020.

In the Men's Open 1x William Tytus Cup, Husky athletes finished first, second and third, as well as ninth and 11th. The first-place finisher was UW's Logan Ullrich, who has returned to Seattle after having won a silver medal in the New Zealand men's four at the 2024 Olympic Games. He finished the race in 18:40.95, more than 20 seconds ahead of teammate Mason Boulter, who was another 27 seconds ahead than third-place finisher, Luke Collins.
