PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) - Tyler Harris scored 24 points and made a career-high five 3-pointers, and Washington took advantage of a flagrant-1 foul with 38.1 seconds left to beat Colorado State 73-67 on Thursday night in the Acrisure Invitational.
Washington (5-1) will play Santa Clara on Friday in the championship game.
After CSU scored the first four points of the game, Washington went on a 13-0 run to seize control early in the first half. However, the Rams responded quickly and closed the gap, cutting the Husky lead to a migure one point at the under-12 timeout.
While Colorado State was able to take control of the lead at the half, Harris' hot shooting kept the Dawgs in it, trailing by just a pair at 28-26.
Washington again came out strong to start the second half, building a six-point lead at the under under-16.
Neither side was able to separate in the second half as the score went back-and-forth throughout until some clutch free throw shooting sealed the deal for the Huskies.
Leading 67-65, Great Osobor elevated in the paint for a shot when Bowen Born came from behind with a hard foul across the arms. The officials reviewed the play and awarded Washington with two free throws and possession of the ball. Osobor and DJ Davis each made 1 of 2 free throws for a four-point lead.
Mekhi Mason then stepped up with four straight clutch shots from the charity stripe as Washington locked up its fourth straight win.
Harris, who has 20-plus points in back-to-back games, entered with just six total 3-pointers in five games. He went 5-of-8 from distance against the Rams. Osobor finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
The Huskies will play for the Acrisure Inviational Championship on Friday, battling Santa Clara in a 1:30 p.m. PT tip. The game will be televised on TruTV and available for streaming through Max.
