Huskies Struggle On Road In Columbus
November 22, 2024 | Volleyball
COLUMBUS, Ohio โ It was a tough night on the front end of the final road trip of the season for Husky Volleyball, which fell in straight sets at the Covelli Center to Ohio State, 25-11, 25-22, 25-19. Washington fell to 19-8 overall and 9-8 in Big Ten play while the Buckeyes improved to 13-14 and 6-11.
ย
The one bright spot for UW tonight was the return of Kierstyn Barton after the Huskies' leading attacker missed the past five matches with an ankle injury. Barton came in for the first time in the second set, only playing back row, and then played front row in the third, getting all five of her kills in the last set.
ย
Washington hit only .100 tonight while Ohio State finished at .234. Freshman Julia Hunt was impressive after a couple early errors, getting six kills and hitting .250 in front of a huge cheering section many of which came from her nearby hometown of Covington, Kentucky.
ย
Emoni Bush led the team with eight kills. Molly Wilson had 21 assists. Lauren Bays had 10 digs, and Elise Hani had an impressive six blocks.
ย
Serving had been a huge edge for UW in its past two wins over Northwestern and Minnesota, but the Buckeyes aced the Huskies 10 times tonight, while UW got just three aces, two from Madi Endsley.
ย
Up Next: Washington will need its best on Sunday when it visits 4th-ranked Penn State for an 11 a.m. Pacific start time, streaming on Big Ten Plus.
