UW Drops Final Game Of Trip, 90-80, At Stanford
January 20, 2024 | Men's Basketball
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) – Keion Brooks Jr. and Wilhelm Breidenbach each notched double-doubles, but Washington could not slow a hot-shooting night from Stanford, ultimately falling 90-80.
"Our defense in the second half just wasn't good enough," Coach Hopkins said after the loss. "I felt like we played hard, I felt like we competed. We didn't execute well enough at the end to win."
Washington took a 3-2 lead when Paul Mulcahy hit a three-pointer 32 seconds into the game, but Spencer Jones answered with one of his eight threes just 45 seconds later and Stanford never again trailed.
Mulcahy made a three and a layup 30 seconds apart to trim the Huskies' deficit to 48-46 about five minutes into the second half. Brooks Jr. converted a three-point play to cap a 10-1 spurt with 7:47 remaining but Jones again answered with a three to keep the Cardinal in front.
