Three First Half Goals Lift Huskies To Victory Over Portland
September 24, 2023 | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE – Washington secured its second Top-5 win in a 3-1 victory over No. 5 Portland on Sunday afternoon at Husky Soccer Stadium.
Washington improves to 4-2-3 overall on the season. Under head coach Jamie Clark, the Huskies are 8-4-1 all-time versus ranked non-conference opponents in the regular season.
Portland opened the scoring on a penalty kick the 26th minute that just barely got by Sam Fowler to take a 1-0 lead. Fowler ended up with three saves.
From that point on, it was all Dawgs.
Nate Jones had the equalizer in the 30th minute on a header off the set piece outside the goalie box. Christian Soto and Peter Kingston combined for the assist.
The Huskies tacked on another in the 40th minute on Aman's first goal of the season - and second of his career - with Kingston on the assist. The pair of assists marks a career-high for Kingston in a single-match.
Washington extended its lead to two with a couple minutes remaining in the half on Nick O'Brien's first career goal off a rebound that got away from the UP goalie. Aman recorded the assist for his third point of the evening.
Up next, the Huskies continue the homestand against Oregon State on Saturday, Sept. 30. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and streaming on Washington Live Stream 2.
