Dawgs Surge In Second Half, Upend Yale 2-1
August 31, 2023 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE – After falling behind in the first half, Washington (3-1-1) scored a pair of second half goals in a comeback victory over Yale (1-1-1) Thursday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.
The Huskies struggled to find a hold on possession in the opening 45 minutes, but turned things around fully in the second half. UW outshot the Bulldogs 11-3 after the halftime whistle, turning a one-goal deficit into a one-goal victory.
Yale got their breakthrough goal in the 23rd minute. After Olivia Juarez came out of her goal mouth quickly to make a point-blank save. However, the rebound caromed off of Ashley Kirschner, who then finished into the open goal.
The two sides battled back-and-forth without creating any dangerous scoring chances the rest of the half as the Huskies faced a 1-0 deficit.
Just over 10 minutes after the restart, Tatum Thomason found the leveler for the Dawgs. The goal came from a corner, as Riley Brown's service found Anna Menti's head. The freshman's header was blocked, but Thomason cleaned up the rebound, scoring with her right to put things at a goal apiece.
UW remains at home on Sunday, playing its fourth consecutive match at Husky Soccer Stadium. The Huskies will battle CSUN at 1 p.m. PT, with the match airing on Pac-12 Washington.
