May 23, 2023 | Baseball
SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 conference announced its postseason awards on Tuesday, with Washington having four players land on the All-Pac-12 team, its most since 2018.
The Huskies' Cam Clayton, Stu Flesland III, Will Simpson and Johnny Tincher all earned All-Pac-12 laurels. Simpson and Tincher were repeat honorees, also earning an all-conference nods in 2022.
Additionally, five more Dawgs were awarded All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention recognition, including Josh Emanuels, AJ Guerrero, Kiefer Lord, Case Matter and Coby Morales.
After announcing his presence as a true freshman in 2022, Clayton has experienced a breakout campaign as a sophomore. The Oregon native has started all 49 games, nearly all at shortstop, posting a .318 batting average with a .922 OPS. The sophomore has seen his power numbers surge, racking up a team high 17 doubles to go along with 10 home runs.
U Dub's Friday night starter for much of the season, Stu Flesland III has been a reliable horse for the Huskies in his first season as a consistent starter. Flesland owns a team-low 3.97 ERA with a 6-2 record in 14 starts. The big lefty has fanned 75 batters over 79.1 innings, ranking first in the Pac-12 in walks per nine innings and third in strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Simpson brings home his second All-Pac-12 honor in as many years after wreaking havoc on opposing pitchers all season long. The Sammamish, Washington, product ranks second on the team with a .335 average and paces UW in RBIs, runs, home runs, slugging percentage and OPS. Simpson has plastered 17 homers this season, second most in the league.
Wrapping up the all-conference Dawgs is Tincher, a rock behind the plate who repeats as All-Pac-12. The California backstop is batting .313 for the season with 20 extra base knocks on 12 doubles and eight home runs. Tincher has driven in 33 runs this season and scored 41 himself. Defensively, the redshirt-junior has given runners fits all season, gunning down 11 woul-be base strealers.
