No. 10 Washington Hosts No. 19 Oregon To Open Pac-12 Play

SEATTLE โ On an eight-game winning streak, #10 Washington opens Pac-12 play at home against #19 Oregon. The three-game series begins Friday and all game will air across Pac-12 Networks.

The Huskies enter conference play with a record of 18-3 and ranked #10 by the NFCA and #11 by USA Softball. Washington is ranked 13th nationally in scoring, averaging 7.05 runs per game. The Dawgs rank third in the nation with 12 shutouts.

30 SEASONS OF WASHINGTON SOFTBALL
2023 marks the 30th season of Washington softball. The Huskies first year as a program was in 1993. Head coach Heather Tarr has been a part of 24 of 30 seasons in the Purple and Gold as a player, manager and coach.

This weekend the Huskies will be celebrating with ceremonial pitches from alumni, giveaway items featuring the 30-year logo and more. Stay tuned to @UWSoftball on Twitter and Instagram for a look at each giveaway item.

THE LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies swept the Grand Canyon Classic, going 5-0 over the weekend with wins over Michigan State, Boise State, New Mexico, Charlotte and Grand Canyon. Overall, Washington outscored opponents 30-3 over the five games.

Kelley Lynch led the team with a .583 average with seven hits and two RBI. In addition, Lynch had a 2-0 weekend in the circle allowing no runs while allowing only three hits over 7.1 innings and nine strikeouts.

LEADER(S) OF THE PAC
As a team, the Huskies lead the conference with 12 shutouts and 80 walks drawn. Baylee Klingler is the conference leader in doubles (8) and is one of the toughest to strikeout with only one on the season. Freshman Ruby Meylan leads the Pac-12 with six shutouts.

NOT ACTING LIKE FRESHMAN
The four freshmen have contributed a lot to the Husky program so far in 2023. Alana Johnson is seventh on the team with 10 RBI and fifth with three home runs. Ruby Meylan is Top 10 nationally in shutouts (6) and ERA (0.45). Brooklyn Carter is a force on the base paths, leading the team with 10 stolen bases. Sydney Stewart has split time at catcher with a .409 average and three RBI.

SCOUTING THE DUCKS
Oregon is 16-4 overall on the season and ranked #19 by USA Softball and #21 by the NFCA. Allee Bunker leads the team with a .373 average and 23 RBI. Terra McGowan leads the team with seven home runs. Stevie Hansen leads the Ducks with a 1.49 ERA with a record of 11-2 with three complete games and two shutouts.

Washington holds the all-time series 63-31 over Oregon. In Seattle, UW leads 25-17. In the last 10 meetings, Washington leads 9-1.

The Huskies will host a midweek game against UNLV at Husky Softball Stadium on Tuesday at 1 p.m. before going back to conference play at UCLA the following weekend.
